TBH this does make him an easy target. He's the perfect strawman. He has enough knowledge to present an idea but not quite enough to completely defend it from multiple angles when pressured. Yet they mock people who do have scientific (or any type really) degrees too. 'Expert' is a derogatory term to them... Actually it's used as a derogatory insult by a lot of people besides them. Environmentalists, certain leftists particularly anarchists and some Communists, alternative health dipshits, anti-vaccine morons, electric universe faggots, radfems, professional civil rights protestors, etc. Basically people who believe that their deeply held, emotionally charged beliefs trump logic, reason, and scientific observation and research. They ignore that specialization, aka expert knowledge and skill was what lead us from being hunter gatherers and subsistence farmers, to becoming an ever advancing civilization.

Sure experts can be wrong, and they can be manipulated, coerced, and threatened into towing the party line (see Communism and all it's bitter failures), but more often than not expert knowledge and skills pay off big. Far more than just winging it and hoping for the best would.

I'm a machinist. I've spent years learning, and honing skills, and knowledge relevant to repairing heavy machinery, and/or making new parts and specialty tools for them. I've spent a lot of time cutting, turning, drilling, boring, tapping, etc. various metals and plastics. Chances are I'm a better person to turn to than someone who's never done this sort of work, if you want a new part, or some repairs made. I'm not the person you'd want to turn to to do your company's book keeping, because I have no background in it, and would most certainly cause you far more headaches and possibly legal troubles than someone who has a background in accounting would.
