Showing up when everyone else is asleep is easy. Competing (and winning) at the highest level, when everything is on the line and everyone has gotten up for a match is something completely different.

Also, it is difficult to label anyone as the greatest in football. Honestly, the sport is pretty one dimensional and the athletes tend to be one dimensional too. It is a fraction of how physically demanding most other sports are, requiring fast twitch, slow twitch, much faster coordination, higher agility, etc. Football is just 99% just feet and ability to run fast. Probably the least demanding of all sports in terms of strategy too. Just not a thinking-man's game at all. So how anyone can be the "best" is akin to saying someone is the best waiter, while ignoring the skill set and knowledge base required to be a chef, while not measuring the success of the restaurant itself.
