What do you think about oil changes?
>>
gotta do 'em regular.
>>
>>730170743
Done mine today
>>
You don't actually have to do them. Oil doesn't decompose so it doesn't go bad. I've gone 170k miles since my last one and I've only been through 16 motors.
>>
Fun fact:

You can use old motor oil to fertilize your lawn!
>>
>>730170743
Do it yourself, do it right. High quality oil (full synthetic lasts longer/more durable. Use high quality media (Wix XP, Fram ultra)
>>
Use canola oil, olive oil don't hold up to the heat
>>
>>730171332
Don't use full synth on a new engine. Go at least 10k on dino.
>>
oh fuck. Thanks for reminding me

Did one yesterday, AMSOIL 5w30 m8

every 3000 miles regardless of the manufacturers recommendation.

My Camry burns so much oil I don't even have to do them. It does it automatically every 1k miles. I just have to add every time I fill up.

Got to change that filter though broski

You only need to change oil with new Mobil 1 (TM) Annual protection motor oil!

A full year, or 20,000 miles, of engine protection guaranteed *

>*Not actually guaranteed
>>
>>730172439
But it's the oil NASCAR uses. They would only use the best long lasting oil

the oil control piston rings
>>
>>730172579
That sucks, bro.
>>
>>730172731
What really sucks is this particular model is not covered under the class action lawsuits against Toyota for oil burning and wrecked engines. I have to stay on top of adding oil like a religion. My buddy told me to just use the old oil from other oil changes insted of buying fresh oil every time.
>>
>>730171641
Yea no shit.
>>
>>730171514
And never NEVER pour the oil without touching your nose and spinning around exactly 2 times, not three. That gets extra life out of the engine.

Can you afford the repair job/do it yourself?

I really hate Maintenance Minders. I prefer a schedule. Thanks Honda for ruining my life.
>>
>>730173195
Id' just change the engine tbh but then you can't tell if the other one has the same problem. I can't imagine it being this bad though

Scam created by the car companies/ oil barons to get you to give them money
>>
>>730172283
you should still change your oil on the reg though. the carbon and gunk that builds up in the motor doesnt have anywhere to go and will eventually cause some issues.

Got hired a year ago to do nothing but oil changes at a shop with no experience whatsoever. Been doing shocks, brakes etc recently. Feels okay man

any of you niggers know how difficult if it is difficult it is to change Cv axle assembly's?

See the thing is.. engines will consume oil within those 20k miles.. mostly like 1 quart every 3k. especially on turbo engines

>>730173709
I wanna offload it but the only way to sell is if I don't say anything and I know the new guy is gonna burn it dry and pop the motor and come by my house and throw a moletov or some shit. Is there any oil treatment that actually works??
>>
>>730173985
If you don't like how much labor rates are, do it yourself faggot

Oil changes are important.
>>
>>730173985
Depends on the vehicle, some cv axles with built in carrier bearings can be a motherfucker to remove unless you have a slide hammer attachment. Other ones like Subaru should have the alignment done after due to removing the cam bolt in the strut.

>>
I do it every 3000 miles with Schaeffers 9000 5w30.
So unnecessary but fuck it right boys?
>>
>>730174791
Well, if it's your daily driver I wouldn't recommend it if you rely on it to go to work/school. Sure would suck if you didn't seat it properly, marring up the spindles on the axle and trans.. Or there's always stripping threads, breaking bolts etc that could leave you stranded until someone else is available to fix it. Not saying you can't do it, just fair warning.
>>
>>730175240

I'm a broke college student who is also a delivery person
still going to do it

>>
>>730175583

>>
>>730170743

What do I THINK of them? The fuck kind of retarded as faggot question is that? You're a fucking moron. Engine bearings need oil film, oil collects contaminants, filter and oil changed every 7k on full synthetic or 3.5k on conventional
>>
>>730170743
I tried to add oil to my car a couple weeks ago. I poured about a half a quart into the radiator thing before I realized what I was doing. I didn't take any steps to fix it. Just closed it, put the rest into the right place, and have driven it every day since.

I hate myself and am too full of shame and misery to fix anything.
>>
>>730175745

I will have some kind of warning sounds if I fucked this up no?

>>
>>730175961
Lucky for you oil is lighter than coolant and will float on the top in the coolant reservoir. The coolant is taken (and put) into the res from the bottom. You should eventually clean out the reservoir or you maybe gonna have some problems later

please for the love of your vehicle drain your radiator, flush it, fill it up with the proper shit

it will take less than an afternoon to do it

>Lucky for you oil is lighter than coolant and will float on the top in the coolant reservoir.
Only if he doesn't drive it for a fair period of time, the water pump ensures it stays emulsified if he drives it even semi regularly, the oil will also cling to as many surfaces as it can inside the block/head and reduce heat transfer.
>>
Adding water to your oil can prolong the life of the oil and help it burn even
>>

It will not take less than an afternoon, it will take all weekend and I'll do it wrong and make it worse.
>>
>>730175961
At the bottom of your radiator is a plug that you can turn by hand. Go buy some 50/50 mix antifreeze. Put something under the plug and drain it all out (NOT WHILE IT'S HOT THOUGH You'll burn yourself.) Replace the plug and pour more in. Now that you know how to do that, do it once a year before winter even if you don't fuck up. Cars do better with yearly coolant replacement.
>>
Long time since I've done one. I well off enough I pay people to do that kind of dirty work for me. Must suck to still be a pleb.
>>
>>730176746

what is a fully sealed coolant system?
>>
>>730176016
Just so you know, it's going to take you significantly longer than 2.4 hours to do both CV's, I assume it's a front CV?
>>
>>730176738
Shops usually do radiator flushes for like 75 bux. Get it done hombre
>>
>>730176594
Worst of all it will begin to soften the rubbers in the hoses and they can eventually burst
>>
>>730176487
Well that's how you'll know if you dun fucked up catastrophically, if you hear that noise driving, something's wrong. When your pounding it in, if it's taking monstrous swings from the hammer and only moving a half a centimeter at a time, you know you fucked up. I'd say biggest part is seating it, make sure it pounds in smooth, you'll hear a change in pitch in your hammer strikes once it's bottomed. Don't keep wailing on it once it's bottomed out
>>
>>730176905
Honestly, there's no difference in doing it yourself vs having it done. Even the price is nearly the same. Some people just like to do it.
>>
>>730177016
I only intend on doing one for now. Both boots are ripped apparently, not sure how the fuck that happens but i guess from the car being 18 shit starts detoriating.
Only one cv joint is clicking and it's not clicking enough to scare me either

Slightly more complicated, but you're on the internet and you can read. I've never dealt with one since I drive an old pos but here's a google result. https://www.howacarworks.com/cooling-systems/draining-and-refilling-a-fully-sealed-cooling-system

Rubber gets brittle over time, tyres crack, boots split, hoses split etc etc It's generally a PITA job for something that happens so consistently on FWD cars.

3 k or 3 months is a bullshit lie. And Fuck you Rick Gilliand who runs an oil change facility in Georgia... You and your stupid wife can suck my nuts... signed marshall jackson.. your former 3 way buddy.

LMAO story?
>>
>>730177671

Generally between 150,000 and 200,000km on your average FWD.
>>
>>730177457
Just tell them you wast a coolant flush. They won't pry, they want their money. If they do ask just say it's been a while since you've had one done
>>
>>730177974
If they find your coolant full of oil they're going to suggest a leakback test because without knowing he added it to the coolant it's generally not a good sign.
>>
>>730177829
Depends on how hard you drive it, where you live, where you drive it etc but not frequently, no.
>>
>>730170743
every 3000 miles.

In this thread, we see the internal combustion engine in it's natural, inefficient habitat. It guzzles at its planet's natural resources, requiring excessive amounts of lubricant in its ongoing struggle to remain running. The dozens upon dozens of moving parts that are it's lifeblood ironically are also its downfall.

All the while, the superior predator, the electric car, dominates the combustion engine in all possible metrics. Demanding less maintenance, with an instant torque curve, even heavy family sedans powered by electricity out accelerate their most expensive and exotic gas counterparts, all the while being far better for the environment at large, more comfortable to ride in, and maintaining lower centers of gravity.

In fact, the only thing holding the electric car back is its slow grazing habits; it takes over half an hour to finish its refuelling, whereas the combustion engine gorges itself in mere minutes. This small flaw is the only thing keeping the old guard from being made obsolete, but it, too, shall be remedied with time.

Another example of natural selection, the indomitable force of evolution, running its course.
