>>730167086
it's russian. like they even thought it through.
>>730167018
Why ? It flys.
No contact to the water.
>>730166875
Sea monster. Idk if it is really an aircraft tho as it only goes like 10ft off the water
>>730167139
This is an high quality anon with based arguements.
>>730167206
It flies because of something called the ground effect (basically a pillow of air between the wings and surface of the water). It can't get higher than that. So technically flying, but also kind of not.
Wallpaper.
>>730167282
>>730167353
Still impressive, isnt it?
>>730167206
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_effect_vehicle
>Although they may look and have related technical characteristics similar to seaplanes, ground effect vehicles are not aircraft, as they are unable to fly freely in the air. They are also dissimilar from hovercraft or hydrofoils, as they do not have any contact with the surface of the water. Ground effect vehicles constitute a completely unique class of transportation.

Absolutely, and they are beastly looking. But it is more of a "flying boat" than an aircraft.

Some of that has to do with Japan unable to replace their losses when it came to ace pilots. The U.S. had better training programs for fighter pilots.
The Zero was an impressive dogfighter, but its exceptional manueverability cam at the cost of less armor and durability.

Quote from Wikipedia:
"It is based on the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 fighter aircraft, but optimized for air-to-ground attack. Unlike the MiG-23, the MiG-27 did not see widespread use outside Russia, as most countries opted for the MiG-23BN and Sukhoi Su-22 instead. It remains in service with the Indian, Kazakh and Sri Lankan Air Forces in the ground attack role. All Russian and Ukrainian MiG-27s have been retired."

Japanese training was stupid with that whole thing based around honcho ace pilots and waves of crumby support guys. Yes they ran out of veterans and aces, but they also let alot of planes die to protect them.

>>730171407
concept is great, but the execution ...
>>730176626
I definitely recommend it. I went in 2011 and last year. 2011 they had a ton more planes in the restoration hangars waiting to be started, but since then, the museum has shipped a number of them off to the deserts in the southwest until they can free up space to actually start on them, such as the behemoth XC-99.
They only B-17D "sharkfin" tail left in existence, the Swoose, is in progress too, but it's going to be a long time before it's ready.
One of the few pieces of the XC-99 that was in the restoration hangar in 2011. The majority of it was outside, and could not be photographed since the resto hangars reside on an active part of Wright-Pat AFB.
Since then, the museum has shipped it off to Arizona; evidently the XC-99 was in worse shape than they expected, and don't plan on starting work any time soon.
>>730178565
Now that they moved the majority of the things over into the new hangar hopefully they can use that empty space to house things instead of sending them to the desert.
