Incredibly reasonable Christian here.
AKA The Parrot guy.

Ran this thread last night and it lasted 8+ hours!
Sadly I only made it seven hours.

Well now the weekend is here and I do not have to work tomorrow.

So feel free to stop in to ask questions on matters of faith or just chat.

May peace be with you.

Psst a secret (not really)..

If you want to know if a person is a Christian see if they exhibit the Fruits of the Spirit.

(Galatians 5:22)
Love (Greek: agape, Latin: caritas)
Joy (Greek: chara, Latin: gaudium)
Peace (Greek: eirene, Latin: pax)
Patience (G: makrothumia, Latin: longanimitas)
Kindness (Greek: chrestotes, Latin: benignitas)
Goodness (Greek: agathosune, Latin: bonitas)
Faithfulness (Greek: pistis, Latin: fides)
Gentleness (Greek: prautes, Latin: modestia)
Self-control (Greek: egkrateia, Latin: continentia)

I mean no one is perfect, but these are the litmus.

I am Gay.
Though I have been celibate for more than 25 years.

Many Christians refuse to accept my testimony because I will not deny my attractions. I do not date or seek out others for a relationship. (Matt 19) But saying I do not still find males attractive would be a lie. I have not been able to "pray the gay away"..

You don't have to stop hanging out with someone just becasue they don't believe as you do.

At least he is open enough to consider the higher power thing. Just agree not to interfere with each others faith or lack thereof.

Live as Christ taught be an example.

You do not HAVE to preach to him or try to convince him of anything.

(If you really feel compelled to end the friendship because of some gut feeling or ??? well you have to live with the results.)

Christ..

I mean really the guy was willing to die for what he believe and he attacked the "priests" in Solomon's own temple. He was not a fan of organized religion. I was Baptized Catholic and left before first communion. I did attend a "private school" for 3 years that was part of the "Agape Church" (TM)

I am certainly NOT one to recommend Church as a way to learn about Christ and his teachings. You may or may not find a decent teacher in a Church?

Read your Bible...

Bullinger's Companion Bible (KJV)
and a Strong's Concordance.

I am very critical of my religion.

I often say "Teach the law, struggle to follow it. but NEVER dare to enforce it upon another!"

Loving your enemies does NOT mean to sell out or surrender to them. It just means do not harass and attack them. Always give them opportunity to repent. If they do NOT repent you are NOT required to forgive them.

(Matthew 18)

But if you go through life only doing what you are SURE Christ taught, and not some guy in a funny hat? Then by all means do so.

I have had those "famous" personal experiences that showed me something more then we realize is going on in "The World"..

In my misspent youth I got in some serious trouble while seeking my way. I was in Jail for assaulting a police officer. Now I thought at the time he was a servant of the devil so I reacted mostly out of fear (drugs probably were not a good thing to do at the time.) Anyway in the jail the same thing kept being repeated over and over. By other detainees. "You need to confess to the District Atty. if you don't they always file additional charges against you.." I was thinking "that is stupid! I have the right to remain silent and not incriminate myself!" It occurred to me that the only "person" I ever really needed to confess to was God.
Suddenly a light went on and so I prayed just that. I was out of jail in less than 5 minutes. When I look up the charges against me online to this day they say "pending" (over 12 years ago.)

>Btw are you a literalist? Do you think there are flaws in the Bible?

>What about Christianity has that makes you believe in it that boudhism, Islam and all the other religions

What? Don't have..

I think that is what you wanted to ask?

I don't know much about Buddhism I certainly have nothing critical to say about it or the Buddha.. How can I know who is or is not an Avatar of God? Islam is just a bit different though.. I mean they recognize Christ as a Prophet, but deny his divinity.

Not with standing the fact that he never absolutely confirmed his divinity. If he had the Jewish high priests would have had him crucified. </sarcasm>

But Islam extracts every Law of the Hebrew or Abrahamic faith and insists that you listen to the edicts of their Imams regardless of if that Imam follows his own edicts or not.. Again more men in funny hats saying do as I say..

A man with in the religion of Islam can find faith but I would not expect it.
>>
>>730092597
I don't mean to be disrespectful but that's a weak base to base such a life altering belief on. If a Muslim had the very same experience you had while praying for his god, would you find his belief to be waranted?

If the Bible is flawed, then it's not the perfect word of God. If so, how do you feel justified by believing every word of it as true?

I believe when "rightly divided" the words of the Bible are true. That does not mean I believe the traditions the church (TM) would tell you are true.

I do not believe apple eating was original sin.
I do not believe Adam and Eve were the first humans ever.

These are claims the church makes that are not supported even with in the flaws of the bible as you say...

When it comes to Gods and Christs words I do read and listen to them. But I do not consider every written word of the Bible to be theirs. I am not a fan of "inspiration" if you will..

I have serious issues with Paul.

I know that Leviticus was the code of law for Priests not for you and I. (while "I" is not used for me specifically. I digress.)

Let me explain later how it can be flawed and yet still correct. I will use the Parable of the rich man if you like?

>>730093455
No I understand. I'm just trying to understand what you believe in. There was a miscommunication. I asked you if you were a Bible literalist and you answered yes. But by that I meant "Do you believe that everything in the Bible is literally true and literally happened" which you don't seem to actually believe and is inconsistent with believing there are flaws in the Bible.
But that triggers new questions. How do you determine what is true and what is not in the Bible. If you pick and choose arbitrarily, I have some big problems with that.

And you didn't answer about the jail experience. If someone with incompatible beliefs with Christianity prayed to their god and the same thing happened to them, would you say their belief is waranted?

I answered yes when it is "rightly divided".

Most of the time it isn't "rightly divided."

I mean there are 2 stories of creation in Genesis. Not just one. The Bible is the story of the "Hebrew" People primarily. They were NOT the first race of humans on Earth. The Earth is not 70000 years old and the Bible certainly makes no such claims.

So what is true? Did Christ himself say it?
Did God? Or was it Paul? What gives Paul more authority then Christ? Or the Pope for that matter? Christ taught us what we need to know.. Most of it is with in that book..

I can not speak on behalf of a musim more than what I said above. They are (at least the Imams.) No different then the vast majority of men who also presume to speak for God and wear silly hats.

Taxes are not voluntary.
Christ said give unto Cesar that which is Cesar's.

Where can I *leave* to that I will not run in to some other Government that I disagree with as well?

I am certainly not following any orders. I am voting for those who I think are most closely in sync with my particular economic and foreign policy. (course I have not voted for a winner since Regan part deux.) Lesser of evils is a cop out..

THOSE ATTRIBUTED DIRECTLY TO GOD OR CHRIST.

Look up "red letter editions" see if that will help you figure out that I have answered you now at least 3 times. It certainly is not cherry picking.

If I accept all ten commandments or the golden rule I am not cherry picking.

What Jesus strives for is not going to happen on "this" Earth...
Quick Earth Chronology:
Chosen Race fails.
Demons pervert the Earth.
God floods Middle East..
Sends Son to teach, prophecy, and redeem.
Chosen Race's Priests kill Son.
Mankind is in charge of all day to day Earth operations for more than 2000 years.
Screw it up further.
Declare peace.
Anti-Christ shows up.
Most men think he is Christ or and alien and bow to him in worship.

Christ shows up.
All flesh ends in the blink of an eye.
Eternity lessons begin.
Devil tossed in pit during lesson with dunce hat.
Lessons end. Devil released one final time to try and tempt the educated you.

You make informed choice.

Final Judgment occurs. Devil and followers go to hell.

I hope that helps you out..

No it isn't it is a lie by those who do not choose to learn history.

Those who are fooled by a clan that has lied to mankind since nearly the beginning.

The book is not perfect to be sure. But it is the best apparently that could be gotten past the censors.

If you tell a story about a King and use his name? Odds are he will burn your book..

So names and places have been changed..
Numbers are off by quite a bit.

It takes some work to distill the word and "rightly divide" it as I mention above.

Because they are as mislead by men in silly hats as are most Muslims.

Christ said "Worship God.." He taught the Lords Prayer which is a style we should use when praying to God.

*Address him "Our Father who art in Heaven"
*Hallow his name keep it sacred: "Hallowed be thy name."
*Acknowledge that you desire his plans to be fulfilled. "Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done. On Earth as it is in Heaven."
*Be grateful as you ask him for health guidance and strength: "Give us this day our daily bread."
*Be humble and contrite - here you would confess your sins and offer your reasoning.: "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."

And again offer your thanks and acceptance of his plan and request for mercy: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

So we pray to God.

If he is Father and Son and Spirit. That is HIS decision or is it her? Who am I to say what God could should or can be?

I prefer the Icthus. But I have posted the cross in here as well only to identify my posts. I do not wear it or display it in my home as it was a murder weapon IMHO.

Your last question will have to be asked of Christ..

I only understand the trinity to be title much as a man can be a Son a Father and a Grandfather all at the same time. I do not claim to have the truth of the trinity nor do I care.

I also know that as with you and I Christ had a soul. was That soul the soul of God?

Who are you or I to say either way?

I was the first anon you replied to in this comment.

Jesus is a pretty cool guy, at the very least he was preaching universal peace and/or love before it was in vogue.

I've done a little meandering through the murky waters of morality, belief, and philosophy. Heisenberg said it best: "“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.”. That was very much the way it was for me, though I don't subscribe to the Abrahamic God.

There is a correct and incorrect way to go about religion, and you seem to be doing it the right way, anon. God bless, and have an excellent day.

I am not sure if it was Christ who said not to play with magik, but that was good advice.

He was not saying you would burn in hell because you were curious. If you are simply talking witchcraft or nature magik. I don't automatically assume witches to be the same as satanists. As I said I enjoy reading about Alchemy. I don't practice it. But magik depend upon who you decide is its source? Is it a Miracle or Something else?

Still there is very little one can do on Earth at this moment that is unforgivable.

Blasphemy of the Spirit is to lie when you stand before the Anti Christ and declare him what you know in your heart he isn't. But since he is not here yet you can not commit that sin.

Now being a devout satanist from the start well that is just flat out shooting the losing team.

Lucy wants to take Gods place and prove him a liar. But is too stupid to figure out that all out surrender would accomplish the task..
So instead we have to go through all this just so he and several billion other idiots can figure out who is in charge and why.

Thanks for answering, if I knew how to heal people with magic I would do it so I feel like God wouldn't see me as a bad person as long as I don't curse or harm people. So yeah I would follow Jesus' ways in terms of magic such as making miracles happen and healing people if it were possible. But I wouldn't go on and try to make myself look like I want to do this all for attention

Did you answer the second part? Why is the holiest day of the Christian faith not on the correct day? i.e. Why is Easter on Sunday and not Monday?

God is not real. We are by-product of evolution, chain of unpredictable events. Just look at us, we have animal instincts, we are nothing more than multicellular organisms stranded on a rock in space. There is no life after death and there is no meaning of life.

Men in funny hats.

Why is Christ's birth celebrated in winter?
Instead of summer when Shepherds were actually in the field. I mean John gave us the exact date of his birth by mentioning that Elizabeth's husband was at a very specific feast. The Jews have records of their feast going back several thousand years.

Your are pretty confident.

But hey if you want to be Monkey offspring and worm dirt feel free.

Please note I am using a stereotypical metaphor of evolution here. I realize that the whole gorilla ape thing is disputed..

If God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omnibenevolent why do bad things happen to good people? Why did the Holocaust happen? Is it because God couldn't stop them, wouldn't stop them, or just didn't know?

We are what we are. You can't deny all the similarities we have with animals. Even some of them show some kind of intelligence, so we are not special snowflakes.
People who believe in god think that they are special, unique, that they have free will and consciousness, that they are above all animals on earth. This is nothing more than being selfish. And I thought that it is a sin.

Are we in "The Matrix," then? Do you have any tips for how one can better than their station or their own situation in this great and grand simulation that is called "life"? What if one is having a personal crisis?

We are in Gaole this place is not a vacation spot. It is a lesson all must be born and die. Your particular lesson may differ slightly on the in between stuff. End of story.

The Holocaust had to happen there could not be a really large group of true jews here in the end of days. Hitler foolishly thought he understood Revelation 2:9 or 3:9. Instead he fulfilled Prophecy. (I don't know if that will save him from hell though. Murder is Murder.)

I want to know. Whats the ultimate argument for Gods existence for you ?

I do believe that we live in a computer simulation. The fact that we can describe how the universe works purely with mathematical equations means that we will be able to simulate our own universe in the future. Have you heard of things like speed of light or Planck length? They are fundamental constants, just like in a computer program.

Animals are Gods creations too.

There are different classes of Angels.. apparently? Cherubim, Archangels, , etc.

Serving spirits busy as bees..

You and I are what we are..

I am grateful to and for all forms and functions.

"The Matrix,"

Well no.. I mean Aliens or Neo these are just stories we are told to muddy the waters.

No this is life and death awaits us all but only once! It is really horribly complex to explain all this.

I heard a guy on Art Bells Coast to Coast once who was speaking of ANgels and God and Christ. He had it so very right.

Then he said "God is a mushroom."

I think I missed the left turn at Albuquerque.

To steal and pervert a line from Michael Strazinski.. Truth is a 3 edged sword. There is Your Truth, My Truth, and The Truth. Rarely do the 3 ever meet.

(OK He said Understanding.. Still..)

That when I preach and some one is not meant to hear what I say they fall dead asleep in an instant.. When I chat about matters of faith with others in person I always make sure they are seated comfortably..

I tend to shoot truth about like a madman with a 12 gauge.
