I was obese 370lbs living at home. I wasn't mobile at all and I ate like shit. Sat around playing warcraft all day, rarely left my room unless it was to eat or shit.

My parents enabled me a lot, never asking much of me or having expectations, and literally no discipline as a child. Like they would forget I was grounded and never enforce rules.

I still never gained weight like that though, I don't know what it takes to get that size. You must have to be eating literally every hour of every day. You have to eat like over 3000 calories a day at 400 pounds to gain weight, and as your weight goes up the calorie count to gain goes up as well. At his size I bet he has to eat near 8,000 or 9,000 just to gain. That's fucking ridiculous. How do these people have so much food?

I'm a lot better now, I run three days a week as part of C25k, I'm done several shirt sizes, I also walk on off-days when I have the time. I eat a whole hell of a lot better, never having more than 1600 calories a day. Moving out made a big difference, I'm responsible for myself now. But even at my worse, I can't fathom what it takes to get that big.

I should also say dieting is about changing your habits. It's much like drug rehab in the sense that you need to get away from unhealthy environments that are enabling you.

I live in eastern europe and I've been in Starbucks once in my life. I got this Caramel something Frappucino. It tasted like a bucket of sugar. I kept water in the refrigerator. I was in Brazil so I would eat a Marmitex with no rice every day. That was like 2oz meat, 5oz beans, and some vegetables and farofa. But in the us I would have a peanut butter sandwich in the morning and a salad with vinegar only at night for at least 8-10 weeks. Green salad too, no pasta, meat, cheese, egg, etc. Take a multivitamin and you're all set.

I was over 600 pounds. It had crept up on me. One day, I was about to get in the shower so I was naked. I detoured to the toilet.

When I sat down, I looked down. I couldn't see my knees. My belly extended beyond my knees.

That scared me very badly, very suddenly. I had a small panic attack. That fear didn't go away completely for months.

I lost 100 pounds in the next two months. (It's actually not ridiculously hard to lose 100 pounds when you're that heavy.) Then there were a series of plateaus and screw-ups but I'm down to 280 and have finally formed enough good eating habits that I'm steadily, if slowly, losing the weight.

Yeah, there are lots of milestones. Whether they are significant enough to make people change their behavior is the only question.
