BOMDAS is right but your interpreting it incorrectly. The parenthesis denotes multiplication in the order of operations because there is no equation in the parenthesis.
For example:
How would you solve 2(5+1)
The correct way is to solve within the parenthesis first. so you get 2(6)
Then you multiply 2*6
The parenthesis around 6 in 2(6) simply means that you multiply 2 and 6.
So lets say there was another 6 and it looked like this: 2(6)(6)
You would write it as 2*6*6 and solve it in the order of operations from left to right.
