I personally prefer android because it is a full fledged operating system that especially when rooted literally is a computer and can do everything a computer can do. That being said, Cydia for ios is basically a HUGE version of Xposed. Having used both i can honestly say that Xposed is NOTHING compared to the customization you get with cydia. You can look up hundreds of youtube videos for jailbreaking ios 10.2. Basically, you download the yalu102 app made by luca todesco, use a tool called Cydia Impactor with your computer to install it on your phone, run it, and ta da you're jailbroken. Super duper simple. Way easier than rooting most phones.

Honestly, you can back stuff up but not like you're saying. While 10.2 was still being signed you could have saved shsh2 blobs for your device if you'd had it then, but without those there's no way to restore to an unsigned firmware like 10.2.

That being said, there is VERY little risk you'll brick the phone if you actually pay attention to the tweaks you're installing and make sure they're all compatible with iOS 10. Also with the way the jailbreak works, you have to re-run the app everytime you boot to attain jailbreak status, which sounds inconvenient but honestly I like it that way cause it means if you do springboard-loop th ephone (You know this as a bootloop, but since when you reboot the phone it un-jailbreaks itself, you have to respring instead. Its basically like restaring windows explorer.)

You can then boot the jailbreak into safe mode but running the jailbreak app holding the volume up key, and uninstall whatever tweak caused the springboard loop.

So there's that. Also, if the 6S is out of your price range you could also get the 5S, which is the oldest iPhone able to be jailbroken with this method on ios 10.2. Those can be had for around $150 to $200 depending on storage and unlocked status and stuff

Cydia is the place for everything. Every app, tweak and whatever you could want is there. You can technically install from other places, but again, since it isn't convention to be able to do so, you aren't going to find ipa's (.apk's for iOS, basically except they aren't self-installing packages you run on the device) floating around everywhere, though you will in some places that are mostly sketchy.

Some of the tweaks/apps I have that I really love and recommend are:

1.)iCleaner (cleans up temp files saving GB of space on some phones)
2.) betterFiveIconDock (Does what it says)
3.)Docker (lets you slide your dock up for an extra row of hidden icons)
4.)iFile/Filza (file managers. iFile isn't technically updated for ios10 so you can't purchase it, but if you get it from a hacked repo you can install it and it works fine)
5.)Chrome Downloader + (does what it says)
6.)MIKOTO (Its in caps cause you need this one, disables reset all content and settings and auto-updates to iOS which would break your jailbreak. Also, allows background playback of YT vids and some other cool things.)
7.)Anchor (Lets you move icons around however you want)
8.)Anenome(Theming engine for changing icons for apps and such)
9.) Noctis (Dark mode for control center
10.) Eclipse 4 (System-wide dark mode, except control center)
11.) Bridge (Lets you import media saved on your device into your iTunes library on the device so you can download mp3 files with Chrome Downloader+ and then import them with Bridge)
12.)MessageHeads (brings chat bubble (Like with facebook messenger) functionality to the Messages app for texting)
