My neighbor bought a compound miter saw there, and it was so sketchy I would not even use it. Half the bolts were to small for the holes. Funny thing is it was only like $30 less than my DeWalt.
>>
I'm glad everyone seems aware that it's very subpar crap and not tools you would want if you're a professional or a serious hobbyist. The thing is, they're not really inexpensive. It's overpriced subpar crap. I do buy things there from time to time though. Depends on what I need, how badly I need it, and the price.
>>

I buy a lot of bins, saws, tarps, and lye

they don't ask questions and that's a good thing
>>
>>729314701
I went with Craftsman, but the only time I have ever broken anything was by blatantly missusing it. I suspect the same is true for their shit as far as hand tools go. And you are a lunatic of you think I am going to load up on snapon hand tools
>>
>>729312698
Because I'm not going to buy a ton of SnapOn sockets when the nigger shop tech is going to steal them.

Honestly tho they have a few things that are good deals but a whole lot of it is cheap shit too.
>>
>>729312698
Simple. A man that needs a tool to work once and only once. Sometimes a job comes up that you either don't plan on doing again or do so god damned infrequent than Harbor Freight is a cost effective option.
>>
>>729314956
I save the 20% off coupons I get. Funny thing is strippers get mad when you try to tip with coupons. A dollar saved is a dollar paid in my book. Strippers got to fix shit too.

I have impact sockets that I use daily as a diesel tech that are a few years old now and haven't cracked one yet. Also bought a Arbor press from there to do wheel bearings at home. But yeah the tools are sub par but somethings they have are decent
>>
>>729315136

>or is likely to disappear from the job site.

This. Being generally handy and generally nice means people want to borrow tools and I want to trust them. So the first many times they are lent tools, they are lent the cheapest p.o.s. version I can find.

The most trustworthy people are the ones who, upon borrowing something, will tell you if it breaks when they use it.

Craftsman, Kobalt, Stanley, etc are bretty gud weekend warrior tools or even if you work in a shop and use em daily they shouldn't fail you unless you really abuse them. You can get away with using a Craftsman screwdriver as a punch or pry bar a couple time, no way that will work with HF shit. Also HF ratchets are pretty terrible. The black and green ones are ok but the ones you get in most sets will break even with occaisional use.

SnapOn is too much for most people but nothing wrong with getting something better than HF shit if you take care of your stuff.
>>
>>729312698
As a contractor this place is perfect cheap 1 job tools to break and/or get stolen.

Other thing about Craftsman hand tools is if you break it they replace it for free. I think HF does that too, I think

Yes, but do you really want to be taking time out of your projects twice a week to replace a shitty Pittsburgh tool that broke?

Most of my Craftsman stuff is US made and people complain since they moved but I still can't complain considering the prices. I try and buy shit when they have the good sales, not the day I realize I need it and have to pay full price.

dim lights
nothing but straight-from-china products
felt more shady than a 99cent store

never went back until this past summer.
very different experience.

I got dragged to one of their shit sales by a friend. Nothing but bins of over priced garbage. He buys a knock off Dremel tool and a cordless impact. I spend 2.99 on a chisel and punch set. How can you fuck up a chisel, right? I couldn't even pop the heads off of rivets with them, and the punches bent trying to knock out a 1 inch wide bearing race. The Dremel vibrated so badly i suggested putting a custom tip on it, and giving it to his wife. The impact battery lasted 10 minutes, one time.

I only come here to buy hand tools (really only sockets, adapters, extensions) or specialty automotive stuff like a steering wheel puller. Sometimes i get some of the consumable stuff like zip ties/tape etc.

Never would i go in here to buy something that i should rely on for safety. Or power tools of any sort. If im in a real jiffy they always seem to have something on hand to make it easier. >>729320206
>well that sucks
Not really. As you can see the infamous "Scented Farts" sketch would simply not have been possible to do live:

youtube.com/watch?v=vwioZMqQXDQ

(or maybe it would have -- improv can be a lot like Dark Knight Rises where they said you can only make that jump if you don't have the rope to save you from falling).

Anyway, one of the big reasons for doing the sketches pre-recorded was to reduce pressure on the cast, but that was countered by (according to the interviews) way more time that the cast had to spend in makeup, rehearsal (as much to help the writers out as for making the sketch work -- their jobs were secure but the writers' were not), and directing.

I work register and I swear they put some magic spell on these things to make every child need to play with them.
The keys and the 50 cent razors are night next to the counter and I can't have a customer with a kid and have the damn kid not play with the fucking knives
>>
>>729312698
Someone who's smart with their money and knows what they're doing with a damn wrench. You don't need fucking Snap-on to break a nut/bolt loose or pry a pump away from a mating surface. If you're having trouble or keep rounding shit or breaking shit, it's the user. The only stuff worth spending big bucks on is specialty tools, like a good torque wrench, micrometers, or carbide bits. I haven't had a use for most of my MAC wrenches except for professional appeal and the occasional moment where I needed more leverage, due to them being slightly longer than typical wrenches...
>>
>>729326252
Eh, I sort of agree, but a nicer set of hand tools feel nice. Also the screwdrivers are garbage.
>>
>>729326164
>have the damn kid not play with the fucking knives

Maybe put the bin with the knives higher up so they can't reach it?
>>
>>729312698
It's like Princess Auto in Canada. You'd go there to buy a screwdriver, that's about it
>>
>>729326252
Honestly it's not always the user

A lot of the stuff that comes through my store gets returned because it was already broken when we sold it.
>>
>>729326606
Maybe I came on a little harsh, but in most cases, I see a young guy with expert tools and a pompous attitude and sucks ass as a wrench turner. I will agree though, HF's screwdrivers suck. Craftsman makes great screwdrivers for the price.

The harbor freight I work at is micromanaged to the nth degree

take a look at the cashier screen next time you're in store and you should see the script we have to read from to get your phone number and email

We have basically no control over anything and have no way of bringing complaints or suggestions upstairs, and this is coming from a guy who's been working for over a year and has been coming up with ways to make the business MORE MONEY from day one.
>>
>>729326252
>and the occasional moment where I needed more leverage, due to them being slightly longer than typical wrenches...

I'll have to disagree with you on that. The shitty pot metal wrenches and sockets you get at HF WILL break under a normal load where good tools would not.

I'm not saying you need Snap-On wrenches or some other name brand, but I'd buy something like Kobalt from Lowe's before I buy HF chinese bullshit.

The pittsburgh hand tools have a life time warranty. Ive replaced pin punches, axes, and files that were used improperly no questions asked. I bought impact sockets there as well for the same reason. The pnuematic grinders and earthquake impact gun are actually really well made and take a beating. Just oil them.
>>
>>729326878
To each their own. Not every tool is going to work as advertised, but in most cases, there's only so much you can do, to make a wrench better than it's competitor. Nonetheless, a lot of the time, it's user error. Dudes will blame rounding off a nut because "because the tool sucks", but they don't tell you they used a 12-point 13mm socket on a 6-point 1/2 inch nut, which is retarded.

I had my foundation need work.
Bought a 10 ton bottle jack from HF.
Worked well enough for the repairs.
Now it's rusting at the back of the shed.

and here's the fucking free coupon shit

I hate it. Honestly I do.
EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE gets free shit, and that's why they aren't in stock when you get there.
Because even though we stock in the hundreds on EVERY GOD DAMN free item, those will be drained within 2 weeks.
And it seems that no one ever wants to bring the item up front with them when they come up to check out, and of course the free shit is towards the back of the store to get people to look at more shit to by, so we have to shop for the people who could not be bothered. This happens DOZENS of times a DAY!!!

and if someone decides to load up on free shit and is told ONLY ONE. Well now I'm the fucking bad guy. Not harbor freight for only putting the "1 free item a day" policy on a sign smaller than a business card at the register in the store AND ONLY THERE!!!

.....
so I yeah hate free shit

>>729327299
Kobalt is okay, I like Husky stuff for small stuff just because their ratchets feel nice. As for HF tools breaking under normal load, arguably, I haven't had that happen regularly yet, the most that's happened is an electric drill burned up after a few months of use restoring an old truck, and a 3/8 ratchet finally gave and sheared, but it was a throw away anyways. I'm not saying HF is the BEST, but I don't see it as unacceptable for any level of technician. Their Earthquake impacts are right on par with Snap-on as far as torque and control, you just have to baby them a bit more because of the lack of fancy features.

D you live in Beecher?

hazard frieght isnt all bad nigger
reciprocating saws are decent
center punches
ratcheting wrenches
sledge
cutting wheels
only thing i get from there

Same guy as >>729328235

To be fair, I don't just jump right into breaking bolts with longer tools right away, as I'm sure many folks here don't either. I make it regular practice to use a blow torch and wax, hand impact, and always keep a mixture of ATF and Acetone or Kroil to get those stubborn fasteners loose.

>>729327750
Probably not but you still sound like one

Need a tool for a one or two time use Harbor freight is the place. Need a tool for a lifetime go get a name brand tool (not craftsman)

So you probably can't just tell your boss, "Look, all I'm saying is we have an annoyance here that could easily be problematic, and adding 10 inches is all it takes to satisfy the issue. If you don't believe me, ask your wife."
>>
>>729328983
I don't see your point. All I'm saying is there's lots of tools that are perfectly acceptable in many applications, and a lot of the time, the hate comes from misuse, and other trusted tools you should spend money on, because they're tried and true.

1. my boss is a woman
2. the key knives are on the top rung of the shelves already (short shelves) and the 50 cent blades are on a counter
>>
>>729329830
Eh I will agree with a lot of the time the fault comes from retards using tools wrong. But imo a lot of thier stuff is shit. I would not use it for any heavy work, no power tools or anything that was supporting anything in was under.
>>
>>729330551
>my boss is a woman
Depending on who among you might butter your bread on which sides, only a mild alteration to the line would make it just as funny, or perhaps even more so?

2. The point is to make them high enough so the kids can't reach them, yes? Thus the "adding inches" notion is still relevant. If the counter is too low, stack them on top of a box with a big smiley face. If the shelves are too low, add more -- you're in a fucking hardware store.

I do network installs, low voltage cabling, etc and purchased 4 sets of glow rods for $10/ea on clearance. Compared to the Klein, they had twice the rods at 3rd of the price.

dude I got called into the office because I wasn't reading off of the damn script when asking for costumer info

harbor freight corporate micromanages literally everything and it makes it horrible to work in
>>
>>729331521
Hey, user preference is different. By all means, if you know what you're doing, and can make it work, you're the one making that money. I'll use HF wrenching stuff, Milwaukee grinders, Lincoln welders, Cornwell tubing and threading tools, and Bluepoint DMMs and others will disagree. I stand by the big dogs I.E. MAC, Proto, Snap-on, and Matco and will always treasure my stash, but if money and budgeting are in question, you're just trying to save some cash and get the same job done or if you're just a hobbyist, it's always good to outsource and get just the necessities. Bashing on tools to me, is like bashing on vehicle brands, each has their downsides, features and their perks.
>>
I build my own shed and roof my entire roof and shit around the house/cars using HF tools. Only pussy faggots who does know shit care about brands. I owns almost every single "name" brands btw

Harbor Freight is great and so are their power tools. Most people don't realize that you need to burn the motor in before use at harbor freight. Run a powertool for at least 15 minutes before any real use and it will last 10+ years.
>>
>>729334198
the fuck kinda high are you?
>>
If it doesn't move, you can buy it at HF.

If you need it for one project, you buy it at HF.

If you intend for it to be abused with little expectation of using it a long time, you buy it at HF.

You buy it at HF if it isn't something you need for a prolonged period.
>>
>>729329093
What's wrong with craftsman? The warranty is what does it for me
>>
>>729336289
Buy tools for the inherent quality, not the warranty.
>>
>>729325129
ayyyeeee fellow HF person. This is all completly true as far as demographics.
>>
What's wrong with the world we live in where such shit products are so commonplace? Cheap ass tool sets that will undoubtedly fail after minimal use should be banned. Send those companies back to china. It's not just tools: a number of household items are the same way. Gas cans. What was wrong with the old style can that had a tube to pour from and a cap on the end? Now you've gotta massage and basically give it a hand job to pour gas!
>>
>>729312698
I work with a guy that only buys here. I swear he does it just to say his shit is broke, to get out of jobs.
