I think there's two sides of it. There's people who don't spend a lot of money on their tattoos and you can obviously tell. And they're doing it for attention or cause it's "badass" Then there's people who have favorite artist and styles that they like and follow. So they don't mind spending whatever for the tattoos because it's almost like collecting art that's original to you and you'll always have it with you to show.

My tatts cover self harm scars on my arms...lame I know. However tattoos are seen as being more socially acceptable than self harm scars. Also, I like tattoos because they are permanent, its nice to have something to make you feel grounded since this generation is overwhelmed with information I sometimes find it difficult living by certain codes/morals/philosophies. The tattoos act as a spiritual map, so to speak.
