well it does depend on what tickles your taste buds. if your going to drink brady - tescos finest isn't actually as terrible as the pretentious cunts will tell you it is - yes remy martin is better - but to a newbies like you - i highly doubt your virgin taste buds would justify the extras $$

if you have a week my recommendation would be to buy a few different types of drinks.

try a nice whisky on the rocks, try without the rocks,
buy a vodka - try with coke, tonic, lemonade see what you like.
try some gin with tonic and lemon
try some rum and coke
etc try some different variations and find 'your' drinks at this stage (bearing in my that the more you drink you will begin to appreciate different things)

start of with a few ice cold beers however. these get you in the 'zone' move on to the hard stuff late.

start smoking also. makes the expereicen much more enjoyable. if you worry about cancer, don't - its a byproduct of natural ageing anyway. your only prolonging your pointless twilight years by forgoing casual smoking.

find a nice activity to do while you drink. some like music. some like postin shit on/b/ - some like doing work, some like sitting and thinking. find out what you enjoy. maybe a pc game even. my personal thinking is that most things are better with a drinks.

beware - the more you drink the more you will want to go out and go crazy. if you are a friendless loner you may start to get techy once you reach that energetic stage. to beat this take a few shots of x drink to reach the drowsy stage. music is good here.

Ya I really want to get to a stage where I know what certain drink tastes like if someone talks about it. I have had all of this at pubs and stuff but never enough that I "know" what it would taste like if I thought about it after, if you get what I mean.

When you say have some beers, do you mean in general or like right before the spirits?

I tried smoking, genuinely hate it, more of a weed guy and rarely at that (mainly due to being poor).

Music is really nice, I like it.

I definitely never get crazy when I get drunk, I am the type to just fall asleep really quickly.

Also "good" or bad vine is often really just personal oppinion based on taste.
Usually, the price is based on the quality of grapes used: higher quality and only one kind is expensive. Mix of different sorts is usually cheaper, except they are not harvested at the same time. It means you harvest some now, and some later(which means you have to store the first one for a while, and it costs money). and then there are some other factors. i dont know where you are from, but i am sure the brands will be different there than lets say in Italy.
On the other hand Cabernet Sauvignon always stands for kind of the same taste, doesnt matter which vinery produces it.
Personally i like dry/frutty red vines, thats why i drink Primitivo or Chianty. My favourite vine is "Mabis Mavum Corvina Veronese / Cabernet Sauvignon", which is a mix of Corvina and Cabernet Sauvignon. But its a vinery in Italy, so i am nit sure if you can get it overseas

Try the different box wines, not only taste, but how it leaves you - as I said, it is really a personal thing, but I prefer dry wines, esp. from Bordeaux and Italy.
