0.99999... x 10 = 9.99999...

9.99999... - 9 = 0.99999...

1/3 = 0.333...
2/3 = 0.666...
3/3 = 0.999... = 1
>>
>>729077224
Hey OP here I did some research and found out that 1+1=2 isn't that neat
>>
>>729077224
It's either 0 or real

fun discussion
>>
1/9 = 0.111...
2/9 = 0.222...
3/9 = 0.333...
4/9 = 0.444...
5/9 = 0.555...
6/9 = 0.666...
7/9 = 0.777...
8/9 = 0.888...
9/9 = 0.999...
9/9 = 1
Therefore 1 = 0.999...
>>
>>729078029
3/3 = 1
>>
>>729078294
but 9/9 doesn't equal .999... It equals 1
>>
>>729078347

Yes. That's what I said.

3/3 = 0.999... = 1
>>
>>729077224
numbers are not real nigger
>>
>>729078294
>9/9 = 1
>Therefore 1 = 0.999...

9/10 and 9/9 arent the the same thing.
>>
>>729077224
1 - 0,(9) = An infinitesimal, and if we're only talking about reals and not hyperreals the only infinitesimal is zero, so in the reals 0,(9) = 1
>>
>>729078422
Ok well if 0.888...+0.111...=0.999... then shouldn't 1/9+8/9=0.999... ?

Deeply disappointed.
Cut a bagel in thirds then put it back together. One bagel
Now take 0.0000000000000000001 of that bagel away and you now have a bagel of a slightly smaller amount, not the exact same.
>>
n = 0.999...
n*10 = 9.999...
10n = 9.999...
-n = .999...
9n = 9
n = 1
>>
>>729078647

So what does 9/10 have to do with this argument?
>>
>>729078917
Not even a real function, fag
>>
>>729078789

But we aren't talking about 0.0000000000000000001.

For 1 and 0.999... to be different numbers, you would have to have a number in between them. Since the 9 in 0.999... is infinite, the '1' at the long strand of zeros you're imagining doesn't exist because you never get there.

Now disprove my fractions mathematically.
>>
>>729078789
but 0.00000000.....00001 is so small that it's 0
>>
>>729079022
How?
>>
>>729079039
The difference is called an infinitesimal
see >>729078686
>>
People are attempting the fractional proof, this is the proper way to write it:

0.333... = 1/3
3(0.333...) = 3(1/3)
0.999... = 3/3
= 1
>>
>>729077224
y'all know how to latex right?

0.999\ldots=0.9+0.09+0.009\cdots

0.999\ldots=9\cdot0.1+9\cdot0.01+9\cdot0.001+\cdots

0.999\ldots=9\cdot10^{-1}+9\cdot10^{-2}+9\cdot10^{-3}+\cdots

0.999\ldots=9\cdot(10^{-1}+10^{-2}+10^{-3}+\cdots)

0.999\ldots=9\cdot\sum_{n=1}^\infty 10^{-n}

0.999\ldots=9\cdot\sum_{n=1}^\infty\left(\frac{1}{10}\right)^n

\sum_{n=1}^\infty r^n=\frac{r}{1-r}
Therefore:

0.999\ldots=9\cdot\sum_{n=1}^\infty\left(\frac{1}{10}\right)^n=9\cdot\frac{\frac{1}{10}}{\left(1-\frac{1}{10}\right)}

0.999\ldots=9\cdot\frac{\frac{1}{10}}{\frac{9}{10}}

0.999\ldots=9\cdot\frac19=1

pls bb, fck TeX and use the Wolfram Language.
>>
>>729078789
But also imagine that amount that was cut is an infinite possibility between .99 and 1. That amount is negligible, and can be rounded to 1
>>
>>729079248

Infinitesimals aren't real numbers, and your non-Archimedean mathematics are not welcome here.
>>
>>729079039
It depends, if we are talking legitimate amounts then there is a point where is no longer matters. Correct me if I'm wrong but the infinitely long number is just how a calculator handels showing an in-between there isn't a number for in decimal form. These are different numbers having a difference of an amount that of a plank length. A limit to how small a thing can be puts a wall in the middle of the infinite number. There is no infinite value just an extremely small one.

It's a geometric sum. If you've taken pre-calculus, you can do this.
>>
>>729077224
if its infinitely close to 1 isnt it 1 ? its like that rabbit surpassing the turtle in a race paradox
>>
>>729078766
No, because 1/9 does not convert exactly to .111..., That's why it's a repeating digit.

Just because the calculator approximates doesn't make it a profound mathematical discovery. Calculators are a compromise for brevity, not the rule.
>>
They are equal.
If they weren't, there would exist some number between them. No one can name any such number.
The difference between them is also 0, hence they are equal

That paradox is a super-task. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ffUnNaQTfZE
A task that separates measurement from theory. The problem is there is a smallest time and space, making these impossible. (What I'm trying to say here)
0.99999... is not one.

Technically 1/3 = 0.333... + 1/3rd of a plank unit. That infinitesimally small fraction gets lost when you convert.
