Kinda agree. Dude snuck back on the plane before his bloodied nose.

The Cops are dicks, but once removed, he illegally boarded a plane, which would warrant more aggressive actions, since he undoubtedly broke laws in doing so

The portion of the law that allows arilines to bump people from flights states that they must be given a written notice and be prevented from boarding. There is no provision to remove a passenger who has already boarded a plan. Lawsuit in works.

They overbook because there are often no-shows so it prevents seat loss, plus, a plane is fully booked far less often than you might think so a lot of the time it isn't an issue.

Problem here was that they had four staff members who needed those seats to be at work the next day. Instead of using their brains and reserving them before the flight was full.

What should've happened is that when he said "I'm a doctor and I have patients tomorrow", they should've realised that saving lives is more important than your fucking staff getting a free ride. I would've quietly told him that's fine and I'd have selected someone else.

Not to mention the security who yanked him around were all black. If this was white men pulling a black man off the plane you can guarantee a crisis investigation into racism and prejudice in the airline industry.

My sister works for United and overbooking is definitely an annoying industry practice but it happens all the time. Not even that, the employees they were trying to get onto the plane were COs and flight attendants that HAD to get on that plane to cover for another flight in the destination city because of an emergency (which also happens ALL THE TIME). They're not just gonna sit there and bicker with the guy for hours. Supposedly the dude is a physician and had patients the next day- like they're gonna die if he cancels their appointments? Sure, the officers (who aren't even associated with the airline? and mysteriously NO ONE is actually blaming them for manhandling the guy?) were rough but people who don't know shit about airlines/travelling are snowballing the situation into an even bigger shit storm.

>>
>>728949961
Ok but if it's the airlines mistake shouldn't it be on them to correct it rather than force passengers to be delayed for the airlines fuckup?
>>
>>728948009
United employees were to be placed on the plane because the airline anted them in another city for some reason, so when the tickets were sold it wasn't overbooked, but it became so later. And United has that right, passengers agree to those rights when they buy tickets, it's just that no one reads fine print. Remember the South Park human centipede episode? Same principal.
>>
>>728950512
>definitely an annoying industry practice
where did I say it was ok? US based airlines are one of the most money hungry industries there are. Overbooking happens all the time because it makes them money. Or perhaps you mean the part where they need to transfer flight crew on short notice to cover for other flights? How can that be helped?

>a plane is fully booked far less often than you might think
when I worked for Delta we didn't let a plane take off unless it was overbooked.
>>
>>728951142
Their first mistake was allowing the passengers they knew they'd have to kick off board the flight before the extra flight crew. Regardless, the crew has to be on the plane and 4 customers had to go, there was no time for them to correct it in the moment but they'll definitely not make this mistake again I'm sure. Maybe it'll finally shed some light on the issue of overbooking.
>>
>>728947299
Anddddd ... my goddamn money queerbait
>>
>>728947299
heres my breakdown of it:

why do passengers get removed from the flight due to overbooking in the first place? the airline employees are taught to sell more seats than are available because people usually cancel. if they stop doing this, ticket prices will go up. which would we rather have? i dont really have an opinion on this because i dont travel a lot, but thats the situation.

so, because of that policy they needed to get rid of someone to make room for staff. they offer people compensation for volunteering to leave in these cases. most of the time someone will volunteer. in this case, no one did.

so whats left to do? someone had to leave or the plane couldnt take off, that was just the reality of it. so they selected someone at random and it happened to be this guy. he should have left like a good gook but he had to be drug out. however, though its hard to see what happened, someones face getting that bloody doesnt happen by accident.

were they in the wrong for dragging him out? no.

could they have handled the situation better? yes. that guy should be fired.
>>
>>728951180
>>728951255
They can't kick someone off after they've boarded the plane just because they want to give someone else the seat. If they could legally do it you think they would offer people money to get off?
>>
>>728947299
actually their plane their rules doesn't quite cover it in american law or even the rules they set for themselves. they broke common carrier law by selecting passengers after giving them reasonable expectation of service

Anyone who works in the travel industry, and have had to deal with Chinese people (and I use the term "people" loosely), will send flowers and a thank you note to United.
>>
>>728951916
>legally
Legally, you have to listen to whatever the flight crew says as soon as you board the plane. That's just the federal law. They give them money in the form of a voucher to be used for a new ticket and hotel stay, not as a bribe.

False. If the flight crew told you to bend over so they could fuck you would you do it? When you pay for a service you have the reasonable expectation to be given that service. Poor planning on the part of the airline isn't an excuse.
>>
There's two things about this that bug me.

One, they didn't kick him off because of overbooking, they kicked him off because they wanted their own employees to transfer to a different airport and picked that plane as the one for them to travel on. They prioritized transferring their own employees over letting a customer who bought a ticket and had already boarded take the flight he bought a ticket for.

Second, they let him back on the plane. The fact that they let him back on the plane proves that kicking him off the plane was pointless. They literally beat a passenger off the plane for no reason.
>>

>Acts of interference that don't quite rise to the level of criminal conduct can still warrant hefty fines by the FAA.

In fact, the FAA can propose up to $25,000 per violation for unruly passenger cases. One incident can result in multiple violations, according to the FAA's website.

A slew of disruptive behaviors can be considered interference, including:

Flashing a laser beam from the ground
Physically blocking crew members' access in the aisle or galley
Threatening a crew member

>Disobeying crew members' repeated requests

you don't get to "stand up for yourself" on a commercial airline. you listen to their instructions.
>>
He did not bought the plane. But for the purposes the captain is the OWNER. He has the authority and the responsibility. He kicks who that fuck he wants out. Period. You can't refuse to leave the plane. Didn't like it? Think it was unfair? File a claim or sue afterwards. Also the refusal is a disregard of ALL the other passengers.
>>
From an attorney I watch on YouTube;

They licence agreement covers asking someone to leave as they did. When going into how this is carried out, it refers to a section regarding cancelations and overbooked flights during check in. This section doesn't cover what happens after boarding so the guy really didn't have to get off if he didn't want to. There's also the argument that the force used was excessive as carrier's rights apply in place of the missing section of the license and they lean in favour of the passenger in times like this.

They could probably argue he should have left but they'll have a hard time defending their use of force.
>>
Why is no one blaming the Chicago Police Department?
>>
>>728952213
if you actually read the story you's learn that the guy was given a seat on another flight and the price difference between the seats was refunded to the guy.
and btw, there is a difference between sticking up for yourself, and acting like a child when asked to move by throwing a fit in front of everyone and on twitter.
>>
>>728947299

Every day flight crews are put on planes without reservation on short notice. How were they supposed to know this guy would act like a child and security would fuck up his face? You're right that this certainly costs them, maybe they'll stop overbooking flights and raise price tickets.

Except those flights usually aren't 100% booked, and when they are they either have to buy the customers off and convince them to leave voluntarily or bump them before they board the plane.

the process should have taken place pre-boarding.

They still get the money. Fuck off with your double dipping.

>Problem here was that they had four staff members who needed those seats to be at work the next day. Instead of using their brains and reserving them before the flight was full.
Yeah they just assumed they could triple dip in this case. Looks like they're gonna be sued now.
>What should've happened is that when he said "I'm a doctor and I have patients tomorrow", they should've realised that saving lives is more important than your fucking staff getting a free ride. I would've quietly told him that's fine and I'd have selected someone else.
He paid and showed up. It's them that fucked up on every aspect of this, so now it'll be up to them to pay whatever the judge winds up awarding for the wrongful treatment and shady business practices.
>>
It's their rules they can remove someone if they please, I don't have a problem with that. It's the way they did it that looks bad, but when you realize he was refusing and resisting (which granted makes perfect sense for him to do) I do see why they used force.
>>

>>728948166
Except you have to agree that they absolutely can kick you off a plane AND remove you by any means necessary is they want to. It's called terms of service, you agree to it every single time and if they say you aren't allowed on the plane or you're going to have to leave, then you are going to leave. If they have to beat you up and taze you and drag your limp bleeding body off the plane then that is what they will do.
You sign your rights away the second you buy the ticket.
>>
>>728956843
You are right. They have the right to kick you off. However, you also have the right to put your middle finger up and tell them to fuck off. TOS dont mean shit, they are not the law

>>

>>
>>728956419
The market fluctuates daily. A 200 million dollar drop won't substantially damage a multi billion dollar company that makes millions more each day. And even if the airline is sued, they're not going to lose their case because
1) Overbooking, while corporate greedy as hell, is legal.
2) They were within their rights to remove him from their flight.
And 3) They don't hire the airport security that physically harmed him.
he'll definitely get tons of pity money and crowdsourcing once that's over though. Who knew all it takes to become a millionaire in America is act stupid then sue companies?
>>
>>728954456
>How were they supposed to know this guy would act like a child
I'm pretty sure the guy is a doctor, and tried explaining he had patients to get back to. Also fuck the flight crew if the plane is overbooked. If they can't persuade a customer to give up their seat willingly then tough shit. The customer shouldn't have to pay for an airline not being better organized.

A doctor has more important shit to do for society than a flight crew.

Also in most other service industries you wouldn't accept this. Most of you would probably kick up more of a fuss if a restaurant tried to do this with your food, but you're prepared to bend over and take it for an airline lmao
>>
>>728956944
And you're right that you can flip them off and say "fuck you I'm not gonna leave." Which is effectively what happened here and which resulted in him getting his bleeding ass dragged off the plane.

>>

I guarantee it won't. Airlines have to rely on the fact that if someone is making a scene or causing problems that they can remove or detain them legally. Otherwise they'll lose control of situations and just have to say "well he's refusing to leave so I guess he can stay"
The only policy that might change is how they can bribe people to get off, nothing is changing about them kicking them off.

If you followed the news, you'd realise it already has. United CEO Oscar Munoz has stated they will no longer use police officers to remove passengers from full flights like this. So if you wind up in this scenario in the future and say no to them, they'll accept that and move on instead of calling the police to remove you.

That doesn't mean they won't call them if a passenger is a threat to other passengers/crew safety though.

Because emergencies never happen and they never have to get people on a fully booked flight at the last minute and have no time to prepare before hand right? Oh wait that's exactly what happened here.
And force is sometimes necessary when a person is told they have to leave and refuse. You can't just do nothing because they don't want to. I'd like to see your world where a cop has to arrest a person and all they have to do is say "no I don't wanna" and well I guess he's free to go, we're not allowed to use any force or anything so what can we do. Maybe we'll just say pretty please will you do as we say.

>>
>>728960013
And if United had capitalized on that they would get away from this with no blowback with he blame falling solely on the police. Instead, the CEO of the airline went on tv to support the actions taken to get him off the airplane. That's where they really fucked up. Instead of it being yet another occurrence of law enforcement using excessive force its now United Airlines supports police use of excessive force.

No passengers on the plane have mentioned that Mr Dao did anything but refuse to leave the plane when he was ordered to do so.

United were offering $800 per seat, which wasn't worth it to anybody. So they scrapped that offer and tried to forcibly remove people. With a budget of $3,200, I'm sure they could have manage to transport their crew a number of other ways that would have been easier and cheaper than this $200mil+ PR disaster.

a cop arrested somebody who's committed a crime is COMPLETELY different from somebody being beaten and forced off a plane because the airline fucked up and the customer doesn't want to be punished for it.

Look up the definition of false equivalency FFS

https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx#sec21

"UA shall have the right to refuse to transport or shall have the right to remove from the aircraft at any point, any Passenger for the following reasons:" etc etc

Notice they say any point, any passenger. Who's the nigger now?

I'd bitch if I had to for nothing but for an extra $800 I wouldn't care much. I'd upgrade myself to first class on the next flight and enjoy it.

imagine you bought a hotel ticket in the middle of the Mojave Desert for 100$, got a serious fever and needed a cool place to rest, then you were told that some asshat wanted the room and you needed to take 200$ and leave or you were getting thrown on the pavement.

Analogy isn't perfect I guess but you get the picture
>>
>>728961520

He got the best from Chicago.. He'll make out good on it.. Next time if they offer me $1200 to take next flight. I'll also refuse and get beat up by cops!

I don't know.. Trump AG will probably put me in jail for doing it.

>>728949961
i bet your sister takes it up the ass better than you do, faggot
>>
>>728962207
Did you sign an agreement first saying they can remove you from your room at any time if they so wish? Because that part of your analogy is missing.
