I think the biggest disappointing thing about the SJW liberal takeover, is that you can't even discuss economics anymore. Like, I get that they take every other argument and reduce it to racism somehow (global warming is systemic racism is a thing they've actually said), ok sure. But discussion on economics as a whole are supposed to be something that transcends lines. It's a philosophical matter deeply connected with the moral obligations of a government, and the only people who even discuss economics anymore are conservatives, and most of them are batshit insane. I mean, classical conservatives are the only ones left that can have a reasonable discussion about something like socialism. They can give you the pros and cons and show you some math and statistics. Ask a classical liberal, an sjw, or a republican about it and get 3 different nonsensical extremist answers.

It's my personal opinion that the role of the government in our day to day life should be small, but now the discussion is basically "what shape do we want our evil totalitarian huge government to take", and there are no other options.

I'm still liberal, it's just that the people who call themselves liberals nowadays aren't liberals.

Liberalism, to me, means having an open mind about new ideas and being willing to try different things to see if they might be better than what we have now. I tend to feel like a society should be able to adapt and change over time, according to the wants and needs of the people who live there.

That said, I'm also quite libertarian-leaning. I think people should be able to do basically whatever the fuck they want as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. This, to me, is very important, and is the big difference between me and most modern "liberals". They would rather censor free speech and restrict people's rights than offend people or hurt people's feelings. That's bullshit. If someone doesn't believe transgender people exist, for example, they should have the right to voice that opinion, so long as they aren't going around beating up trans people or calling them faggots or whatever. I hate this "safe space" mentality. The world is not a safe space. Bad shit happens. You can either ignore the ugliness in the world and pretend bad things don't happen, or you can be an adult, learn some goddamn coping skills, and fucking deal.
