There really isn't a food shortage, and all the talk about "food deserts" (i.e. not enough food that Gwynyth Paltrow would deign to eat nearby) is an admission of that. There are also secondary causes, one of the big ones being making a big chunk of the black male population unemployable by throwing them in prison.

The food shortages are inefficiencies. The government is generally a lot less efficient than the free market, so the free market should move.
