Some kinds of vending machines come with a service mode that you enter by pressing a certain sequence of buttons, rather using a key. A lot of machine owners/operators are lazy, and don't change this sequence from the default. Find out the model of your target machine, and look it up. It may have known exploits. These machines are expensive to replace.

It depends on the type but the older buttons in a row type, you enter options 4,2,3, and 1

There's a circuit in the machine hidden behind steel and a lock.

Going to the effort of destroying the locking mechanism is a lot harder than just breaking the window and taking what you want.

The only way to 'hack' a modern machine is to access that circuit somehow.
