It is difficult to follow what's written in the Quran word for word so most scholars turn to the prophet and his actions to make out what to do. Context and stuff. Muhammad's actions had a lot of importance to them.

IF Muhammad was sent by Allah as the final prophet for all of mankind and his actions have so much gravity, why would he be a nonce?
