Swan Song, by Robert McCammon. Similar to the Stand, post apocalyptic war of people drawn to an evil, supernatural Flagg like guy, and forces of good drawn to the side of a girl with supernatural powers who is the only hope to restore life on earth. Although the plot is very similar to the Stand, I think it is actually better.

the mistborn books were alright but about halfway through book 2 I realized that sanderson is mormon and the books are about "when i become a God in the afterlife, what if I make a planet and fuck it up?" and that kind of killed it for me. I still finished the series but i stopped enjoying it as much after that because I could pretty much predict what was going to happen from then on.

theyre great except for having a story arc that is utterly reliant on the characters making decisions that no person would ever make. >>
>>728257772
As far as black actors go, they picked one who can surely play a character like Roland, but still, he looks nothing like him. That's important, and it's clear they just threw that out the window. Even more so, it fucks up the story with Susannah thanks to the race relations between them. So who the fuck knows what is going to happen.

Hi, I prefer to read nonfiction, but currently with all this hype about the new It movie I'm reading the book (Stephen King, It: A novel) I really like it! I'd read Mr Mercedes which was like watching a movie one Sunday in the TV, I would say 3 out of 5. But It is so far 5/5. I've read half the book. Also in the school I was forced to read Martian Chronicles (I think that's the original title) by Isaac Asimov I think. I didn't appreciate it so much at that time but I think I would enjoy it much more nowadays. It has some comic parts and some surrealistic things, very very creative for that time.

Martian Chronicles was Bradbury.

Read Ham on Rye by Bukowski. Simple degenerate language that is somehow incredibly poetic

I'm afraid I'm not going to like it much. In the credits on IMDB, neither Susannah or Eddie appear as characters. At first I thought, well, they don't actually show up anyway until "The Drawing of the Three" but then when I looked at the promo pic, you can clearly see the Horn of Eld in Roland's pack, which came AFTER Susannah and Eddie. So again, WTF???

The point of having been offended was still valid either way. Glad you took the time to screen cap that though. Sorry to have faked such a strong opinion and offended you as well then. Thus proving my point further.
I'm a fan of the books but I wouldn't crucify someone for not liking them.

yeah after all the failed attempts to get it off the ground and all the time it's taken, it's gone to shit, which is pretty much par for the course for his movies (excepting stand by me, shawshank and maybe the green mile, maybe i'm forgetting another...). this is why we can't have nice things.

I get that.

It came off to me much like The Matrix series: the first part was new, mysterious, full of wonder and discovery. Everything that followed could never reproduce those things.
>>
Having read the Stand, you've already read Kings best. Dark tower 2, 3 and 4 are also fantastic though.

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Bradbury is rather great. Pretty much about learning to be happy with life regardless of dissatisfaction with age or societal position.

Also imho No Country For Old Men = McCarthy at his finest, followed immediately by Blood Meridian.

And though not quite as popular and at times difficult to read, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is a fucking masterpiece.

Final suggestion for now would be the Song of Ice and Fire series (George R. R. Martin). Although, being unfinished it is frustrating.

if it plays out at all like the show (which it kinda can't) it'll be weak. In the book Euron is showing up with a badass horn that controls dragons and Selmy is still alive, Tyrion is fighting with the second sons... the show already blew past any of that happening with blind retardation
