I'm not saying that I agree with tipping, but it appears that many people do not understand why tipping became normal practice in the first place.

When tipping first started, that was the only money that people in the service industry were paid. As the years went on, society realize that this wasn't cool and started paying people in the service industry. But because they were already receiving tips they got paid less than minimum wage. That's still true in many service jobs today in the US.

When it comes to hairstylist, Mini people aren't actually employed by the place they work. They rent their spot from the store owner and whatever money is left over after they pay their rent, is what they get paid for cutting hair. I'm not sure if that is true for Barbers also but it seems like it might be.

There is a huge push in the service Industries to stop paying people less than minimum wage and get rid of the tipping practice all together.

My haircut costs $20 and thats pretty high in my area. Most are $13-$15. So I never add any tip. Should I? The barber is alright, not amazing, I'd go to another if I had the patience, and he takes too long to cut. Almost an hour for a simple cut every time.
