dave mustaine has done more for thrash and had far more influence in early bay area thrash than any person in the world. Mart Friedman, Chris Poland, and Kiko Loureiro are also superior guitarists to Mustaine who each brought something unique to the table that the Hammet/Hetfield combo could never match or even emulate. I love metallica but any metal fan can see megadeth was the superior band

Cliff was a gem, but david ellefson has mastered what it means to be a thrash bassist like frank bello. Newsted was a great on stage performed and Trujilio is wasting his time in metallica. AJFA is great but the mix is horrible and marks Kirk's downfall as a lead. Every Metallica album shwoed growth with the band, (first 4 albums) but from the transition from MOP to AJFA cliff was lost and the band took some defecits while also making major strides. AJFA was James's prime downpicking progressive-thrash riff pinnacle and lars had begun to experiment with more complex time signature changes. However, they muted Newsted's bass and lost the bottom end of their sound. Unfortunately for Kirk he started reverting back to his kill em all style of soloing (plaing the same pentatonic riff over and over really fast). there are some gem solos on that album though. I love frayed ends of sanity and blackened in every aspect.

as for lyrics of one band vs the other... they're both just edgy metal bands with watered down slayer lyrics. Holy wars has decent lyrics imo
