It would be weird economically because you just have all this exploitable labor. In the Roman times, rich aristocrats would buy tons of slaves and start to run these big plantations I think they're called latifundia. And that combined with the increasing lengths of wartime deployment of the working age men made this fucked up socioeconomic situation where the rich were getting richer and the poor were getting poorer and the small family farms started dying out and selling out their land to the latifundia which then just made the aristocracy even richer. Then the more poor farmers ended up in the slums of big cities. I'm not sure how slave labor would be. We would need to have a strong yet responsible aristocratic class keeping things in check. Once the upper class gives in to greed, I think things get really unstable and you get revolts etc.

Life wouldn't be any different. The only reason we don't have explicit slavery in America is because the current organization of labor is more productive.

If you have hundreds of millions of educated people responsible for their own well being, but trapped in a system where they can't really get ahead and must pay you 'rents' on everything they need to live, you get all the benefits of slavery with none of the work of caring for your slaves.

Go to the UAE or Qatar. They didn't use a local workforce to build most of their cities. It is known that they use slave labor. Also you can join some spec-ops unit (if you are able to), and if they send you to South America to take out some cartel you will see slaves there too. Of course cartel slaves range from numerous things from sex to labor, but you will still have to save them (if you join a spec-ops unit). Another place you can go is South East Asia, but you will mainly find sex slaves there.
