If this is something you feel you want and are ready for it's important for you to be open with your lady about it. 2nd this. But for me the honesty is the most important factor. If I can bring this up with my significant other and she doesn't like it, that's okay. At least we had a discussion over it. If she makes me feel like I have to hide this aspect from her, we have problems to begin with.

Setting boundaries early is key. My first time was in a long distance relationship this last year and it worked out well, but we just kind of got bored towards the end, but I never had to lie about anything at any time which built a lot of trust.
