It's all about programming though, the human brain can be programmed to do some fascinating things. Listen to a steady tapping sound (metronome) and it will put you into an alpha brain wave state. I've done it a few times and the results are fascinating, first time I felt myself get three times bigger and I then 'went' back to a house I lived in when I was a kid, was able to use that moment in my therapy, bit interesting.
