Whereas our technological limitations used to mean that cultures were very much defined by geography, now a 12 year old trap farmer in macedonia can exchange cultural ideas and values with a 12 year old autist in america through the use of the same nefarious messageboard.

There are americans and russians who come together and are forming communities based on shared values (hatred of muslims, for example) whereas this would have been utterly unthinkable to their grandfathers.

We have women across the world discovering that they ar enot alone in their suffering and they can find solace and community through anonymous messageboards. We have children in korea, scandinavia and brazil all competing with each other through online games and are developing their own language that is barely comprehensible to anyone outside their group.

What we are experiencing is a paradigm shift and the spasmodic deaththrows of the old order. There will be a major war in our lifetime as the old guard attempts to reassert its dominance and after that the future will be as alien to us as our present day was to our great grandparents
