Well, technically you are correct. I don't legally own any guns myself. I am from Germany and I am a hunter. My father is as well and since I was not allowed to own a gun by the age of sixteen but had a license for hunting under the supervision of an experienced hunter (in my case my father or brother) my father just had the guns licensed under his name. We never changed that when I became old enough to legally own guns because it is not an issue in any way and when my father dies my brother and I will inherit his guns which actually is an easier process.

Number one is the fact that you claim civilians don't need to shoot quickly. The fact of the matter is civilians face the same criminal threats as law enforcement do. Number two is your lack of technical knowledge. Most firearms owners know the difference between "assault rifles" and modern production civilian rifles. LEO here tho. Had much more than 1000 rnds through my G19. Still love it.

To be fair, the glocks are boring. This isn't a gun I would buy for fun alone, or tinkering and fantasizing I'm a badass. There's a lot of awesome guns out there for that (and more) tho.

This is, however, a gun that gets the job done, accurately, over and over again. It's incredibly easy to work with, and manipulate under adrenaline. The whole point, at least for me, is that it's boring. I can beat the PISS out of it, and it keeps working. It's a workhorse firearm.

Also of the few people I know who own a reflex sight (hopefully thos is the correct english term) they all treat their guns like toys. That is where I get my opinion from. I don't like that but I can't change it so I'll accept it.

Lastly the home invasion stuff sounds phony to me. Protect your house with better doors and barred windows if you are that scared. That'll give you a better chance of not being shot than approaching multiple armed attackers at once. But that is probably just another question concerning believes.

The M4/M-16 platform is still in service with the US military because of lobbying efforts to keep better designed rifles out of military contracts. The military is looking to replace it just about every year, holds trials, lobbyists throw money around, it survives another year. Eventually though the military will get its head out of its ass and admit that we deserve better than the ageing rebuilt crap we've got and provide something with more options and or a better caliber.

The AR platform just hasn't had anything better for a cheaper price. All the new bullpups and assault rifles cost at least twice as much for close to the same performance. Hell H&K made a piston AR platform that costs well over 3 times as much as a Colt.
As for Glocks, by no means are they the Apex. If this were 1980 then yeah it is the Apex of small arms design and affordability. But it's 2017 and there are many models thses days that cost the same as a Glock, if not cheaper, and out preform it. Even the SP2022 is cheaper than a Glock, is more accurate than a Glock, has a DA/SA trigger with hammer, and comes with a full length rail. Of the people who own a Glock that I know are either too stupid to use any other firearm or tricked it out with over a grand worth of shit.
