I bought it used, the previous owner didn't treat it very kindly. I don't go very hard on cars, I usually try to be gentle with them. But, the funny thing is that the problem with the second gear isn't permanent, there is a period when half of the times won't get in, then there is one when every gear change is butter smooth, usually every month there is a week where the second gear doesn't get in, past that week everything is fine. Maybe it gets on her period during that time.

Going into my 10th year without a car payment. Bought this little project for $500 with a newly rebuilt motor and transmission. The absolute only thing it needs now is paint. This might actually be the most fun I've ever had driving. It's certainly not the fastest thing around but it is the perfect example of 'go kart handling'. If I can find one decently priced my next project will be dropping in a VTEC and swapping the transmission.

But that car has survived everything, one time i went to the mechanic (official Citroen) to change the front shock absorbers, when i got back to retire the car i found that they had mounted the wipers upside down, and since they cross (pic related) they would hit each other every time i used them, also the car sometimes steered to the left suddenly and for a short time (like 30 seconds) and to keep it straight i had to turn hard the steering wheel for about 1/4 of a full turn. Obviously i took it back and they resolved the problems with no charge. Probably that's why I like it so much, you never get bored while driving it.

I've pretty much always had 6cyl cars and dropped down to 4 turbo because of the good gas mileage and the back seat (had a kid). Extremely responsive once its opened up but leaves a bit to be desired off the line. Overall this has been my favorite car I've ever owned though.

Well, it helps that this is the same engine used for the 116i and 118i, latter one has 170hp stock so it looks like a bigger jump than it is.

On the other hand, this engine is also put in the previous Mini JCW which had 220hp so i´m not worried one bit about the engine´s longevity!
BMW is pretty much known for overdimensioning their engines, which is why they are so great (generally speaking).
