I feel for you bro. I've had to do CPR on 4 people, saved maybe 2 of them and the other two would have probably been ok until emergency services arrived The last one I did really fucked me over for a few weeks though - I knew he would've died if I hadn't done something.

Assuming you're a paramedic or EMT (whatever they call them in US), you guys are legit heros and so professional too. I used to want to be an EMT but having all this happen to me I don't know if I could handle it mentally, especially seeing people's guts splattered all over the pavement.

>Dispatched to local residence for a patient claiming to have swollen arms and lesions on them
>Me and my partner talk about how we think this call is probably bogus and shit
>Arrive on scene to poverty ridden shithole and walk out to a shed where the patient is living

I love it. There is no better high than running a crazy call or saving a life. I have done CPR more times than I can count and have seen hundreds of deaths (partially due to prior job assisting coroner with removals) so I'm just used to blood and gore at this point. I went on a call last month and had to come home and shower the blood off of me and out of my uniform because it had soaked my entire pant leg through with blood and ruined everything in my pockets. I was still finding blood and chunks of face on my boots for a week.

Story number three
>Dispatched for a structure fire
>Dispatch reports a person trapped upstairs in the home
>police arrive and make entry and evacuate one homeowner
>They try to make entry upstairs and are unable to due to fire spread
>when they showed up they could the the person beating on the window upstairs
>I arrive shortly after the initial first few units and gear up to go inside
>Go inside and back up the tea trying to head upstairs
>house pathway is fucked, making our task nearly impossible since you can only enter upstairs from the back of the home and downstairs from the front with the exception of a door that leads to the bottom of the stairs to go upstair

Story number four
This is the call from last month where I got soaked in blood
>Dispatched to a suicide attempt at 3AM
>Dispatch says a 91 year old male shot himself in the head with a firearm
>Per RP (reporting Party) the males face is badly injured and he is still breathing
>Arrive on scene within 5 minutes of the call. law enforcement had to have been there in under 3 minutes from time of call
>Walk in and see the medic unit who beat me to the scene trying to get an IV while the duputy suctions the airway with our gear
>Blood is fucking everywhere, you are stepping in it without a doubt no way around it
>We have some go get a backboard so we get we can lift him to our gurney without injuring him more
>I take over suction the airway while the medic gets ready to intubate
>Guys face is blow apart from the upper jaw down
>His lower jaw is gone and in pieces
>Can see pieces of jaw bone with teeth attached sticking out of parts of his face
>Suctoning his wound but I can't keep up with the bleeding
>He has a constant pool of blood in the back of his throat
>The smell of blood at this point is really strong
>Medic intubates the guy successfully and we get him to our rig
>Start finishing out assessment and hook him up to the monitor and prepare to transport
>Call for airlift to meet us at our local hospital 10 minutes away
>Head to local hopsital while bagging him with the bag valve mask
>Arrive to the local hospital, chopper still a few minutes out
>Due to a providers misinterpretation on medical laws we stay in our rig to avoid entering the ER and causing a paperwork shitstorm due to not following hospital to hospital transfer rules

We run those calls fairly commonly.
Strokes you can watch for by looking out for Facial Droop, Arm Drift, and Word Slurring, as well as a few other possible symptoms.

Here is a story for a heart attack we had a while back

Got one thats short and sweet. My first ever call. Jogger hit by semi, almost complete amutation midway down the leg below the knee. Leg was being held on by about an inch of skin. I guess i can give the story if anyone wants to hear it.

This happened a few days ago

Needless to say, we never found those pups and the house was a total loss. One of the hardest fires I've been to so far.

I have:

We follow the city police use of force policy, when the kid refused to follow our directions we went to non lethal, when he kid faced us and put his hand down his waist band we felt like our lives where in danger so we used lethal force.

We gave the kid multiple opportunities to comply, the other dude I was with told him that he will be tased. He failed to listen.

When he turned to me I had only 1 option. If I had shot the kid in the gut he would have more than likely survived the initial shots, but would have either bled out or his body would have gone into septic shock.

If I had shot the kid in the legs, or arms, there is still a chance it could have nicked vital arteries and he would have bled out. If I had shot him in the leg, the city and my company could be sued for negligence.

It may not seem like the best option, but we gave the kid multiple options.

The detectives who where incharge of this case told me that the kid was looking at close to life in prison for his felony charge, and they assumed he wanted to go out suicide my cop.

If I test and get a career fire job in my state I can make 5-8k a month or more depending on over time. Do wildland in the summer for your dept. in our state and you can get an extra $50k a year in OT just during the summer. We cover all the calls on the south end and Station #1 covers calls on the north end, a private EMS company takes a majority of the nursing home calls and their A/L/S Unit takes MVA and residential medical calls when we are unavailable. Since our county is broke as hell we are all unpaid volunteers who are on call 24/7, we do sometimes get federal grants, but our vehicles/equipment are paid for by local/federal taxes and donations, so we have up to date trucks, rescue squads and equipment. Our response time is very slow (30 mins average after we arrive at the station, rolling code 3) local sheriffs office is also small so we work with the state police very often. We take damn well care of our shit, a lot of our guys know their way around a car, so we do a majority of the repairs/maintenance to our vehicles. Anyways enough with my life story (ADHD, can't stay focused on one thing for shit and keep blabbing on forever), here's a story from few months ago.

Property manager here, did a welfare check on a tenant who did not respond to our calls, letters, and knocking on his door due to neighbors complaining about an odor coming from his unit.
Guy's been dead for about two weeks in the middle of August. Two guys in shirt, tie, and blue nitrile gloves from a contracted funeral services hauled him away after cops, EMT, and sheriff coroner went through their routines.
It smelled like putrid garbage and rotten durian when they started moving him.
He was a shut-in and a hoarder. As his closet next-of-kin didn't want anything to do with this, all the contents that wasn't bio-hazard went into a dumpster. Don't know what the cops did with the body.
Two urns were found in his garage, the ashes of his parents. Management put them into storage because they didn't want to pay for properly disposal, but didn't want to illegally dump it either.

I gave the kid the time to think through it, I had my own weapon out and drawn at him. I can't use a taser with one hand, we aren't trained that way.

I treated the situation as the kid was armed, I provided cover for my partner I was with, I was going to be cover while he was contact.

I've pulled out my taser on people numerous times, and normally seeing the taser light and laser makes people comply.

After I gave 5 commands to comply with my orders and get down on his knees with his hands on his head he did not listen. I then verbally told my partner to draw his taser.

As he drew his taser the kid turned around and dug his hand into his waist band. Since my partner had his weapon holstered and unable to defend himself I hand to think for the both of us, I then fired 5 consecutive shots to neutralize the threat.

I could have put the rest of 10 rounds in him, but I stopped once he fell to the floor.

If I had drew my taser, and the taser prods didn't stick to him, it would have been useless, the X26c taser requires both prods to be attached to the subject in order to create a current.

If the kid did have a weapon, then he could have easily opened fire on us, leaving my partner defenseless for the whole 4 seconds it happened could have lead to both our deaths.

Here's an image with the basic steps of use of force. Ours in a little bit different but this gives the general steps.

I had a TIA in 2014 when I was 28. I'm not fat at all or have any cardiac history.
I got tingling in my lips and fingertips. I was able to fall into a police station and demanded they call an ambulance. I work as a first aid attendant on construction sites, worst I've seen is a smashed hand from a guy getting it stuck between two cinder blocks, people shooting themselves with nail guns, cuts with skill saws, but nothing too brutal, was thinking about continuing down the road with health.

I'm an RN in a busy level 1 trauma ED. I just got home from work. My last pt of the night was a man who got drunk and set his house on fire. BAC was close to 300. He didn't have many burns, but his nose was full of soot and his airway was completely black, not an easy intubation for our doc. He was DOA but we worked him for a bit because we had new people that needed to practice compressions. Also so we could tell the family we did all we could. Burnt humans stink. This guy especially cuz of his weave. There was black melted plastic from it. When I transferred him to the morgue gurney, his hair was sticking straight out to the side.
