Anything by Michael Crichton, that guy can write a damn good read. I think it was called Timeline, he had me convinced that time travel was possible!
Needful things is good too. Night Shift by King is great, it is 4 shorter stories but average book length. Thinner by King writing under the pen name as Richard Bachman is good too.
