Dunedin is not that amazing, to be honest with you.

Most students come down here for the night life/flat parties, the flats are poor standard wise (in some areas) and some are pretty cold during winter.

I am Canadian. I've lived in Toronto almost my entire life. It's a city of 6 million people. That is the kind of city that comes to mind when you think big city dreams.

I've lived in Auckland for years. It's absolute garbage. It's a small town that likes to pretend its a big city. The night life is no different than what you would find in Dunedin only it's more expensive and every third person is Asian or Indian.

$200 pw in Auckland will get you a shoebox flat in town that you will have to share with 2 asians and it won't even cover power and internet. It will get you a nice room in a suburban house but your commute will be expensive and take ages.

Everyone in Auckland thinks they are king shit because they think Auckland is really cool or something. It isn't but they will take every opportunity to tell you how cool it is and how cool they think they are.

Go to Dunedin. The social scene is exactly the same (maybe barring concerts from international artists and things) and its way cheaper and just easier living. You want the truth? All of New Zealand is boring. That is literally the point of New Zealand. I get that everyone who was born here is itching for an adventure because it's so god damn sleepy. That is what your OE is for. You're not going to find excitement in Auckland.
