If you think you're going to be doing your job 5-7 years from now the way you perceive it to be. Than you're in for some shit.

Part of the reasons I got out as a battle management operations specialist was due to senior leadership telling me no B.S. that I will no longer be managing aircrafts and missions but managing people. It will be the same for all career fields, except JSOC ones because they don't have time for that shit.

You will be expected to take on 'orderly' roles in terms of filing out subordinates paperwork. Writing subordinates performance reports and punitive actions. Essentially becoming a person that goes from being hands on or directly involved. To managing personell from behind closed door meetings and spend days, hours, and weeks in 'bullet writing seminars' where you come up with a million different ways to spell out. "Airman recieved 6 Hours of Sexual Assault Prevention Resistance training; became unit SARC monitor -- Enhanced Air Forces Rape victim awareness percentiles."

And you will be expected to be a 'leader in the community and promote involvement through coordinate volunteer efforts which you will be expected to conduct, plan, and lead."

That is almost verbatim in the Enlisted Force Structure. Enjoy stepping on needles laced with HIV picking up trash on the side of the highway.

Also prepare to sacrifice your first born son to do all these tasks so you may compete for awards, which if you do not win; essentially nullifies your progress to most NCO ranks.

Who is this john burke?

The way it was explained to me at Airman Leadership School/Non-Commissioned Officer Training PME that the USAF in recent years has gone through a 'restructuring phase' to adapt its management style to the framework of 'Fortune 500 Companies' ever increasing the corporate aspect and image of the USAF. Essentially meaning higher tier leadership is less to blame for individual faillings of subordinates and immense scrutiny of front line supervisors and their many tasks to carry out. Including you know, their main job which might be incredibly difficult and time consuming where people and pilots lives might possibly be at stake;
....
'But muh bullets & performance reports'
This is ineffective for achieving and maintaining air dominance, training & projecting unrivaled combat air power in the 21st century and beyond.

I plan to enlist soon for USAF, what kind of things should I expect if you don't mind giving me a quick summary. Was there anything that you were expecting and disappointed about after enlisting or was it pretty close to what you expected?

If you can answer me I really appreciate it, have to go to bed soon for my wageslave job and I'm getting sick of it.. took jrotc in highschool for four years and have kind of lost direction in life and want to get back on track since I enjoyed that the most in school.

Also, thanks for everyone's service in this thread.

I guess I'm just curious what a recruiter might hold back from me information wise on what I should expect or what I should do in the service that will benefit me afterwards in terms of finding a job and what not
>>
>>726895224

Recruiter might sugarcoat shit or tell you things too good to be through, research stuff on your own as well.

As for me I'm trying to join the navy as a officer just for the money so I don't really care if my one bullshits me, I just want him to get the paperwork done.

Right, I kinda expected that already but that's why I just have a lot of questions. I know nobody on /b/ is gonna sugar coat anything but i've been doing research from asking family members that are retired from usaf and most anything I find online I kind of already knew.

It was okay. It was the best of the times, it was the worst of times. It really all depends on who you're stuck with.

I can tell that I was in a good flight because I ended up hating people in all the other flights more than the ones in my own. And genuinely did come to like a few of them. I also feel i got really lucky with the MTI/Drill sergeant I was with. We came really close to winning honor flight by the end and some minor title awards. Sexual assault scandals still trouble Lackland and their command staff. So expect them to keep addressing the matter to no end.

>>726895224
Being USAF recruiter is all a numbers game. How many people in high demand jobs can I get X amount of people for. That is their bottom line.

Do not take security force DO NOT
DO NOT DO NOT, they will talk this one up to no end. Everyone I have ever known here in this career field hated it. And for good reason. You will figure this out on your own though ;)

Do something that translates easier to what you might think would work in real life. A lot of maintenance people who work on jets find easy work at air ports, and those who work with communications and technical type of stuff will learn a lot that could and will help them out in the civilian world. One caveat to those types of career fields -- no one really stays in them that long for such a reason and get out as soon as it is advantageous to them and find a job elsewhere. The USAF has taken notice of this and is currently installing measures to dis-incentivize people from taking 47k p/y to 147k p/y
