Saw this movie recently because it was on a list of good movies I'd never seen... I thought it was meh. I'm sure it would have been amazing when it first came out, though
>>
>>726640561
Its a shit movie. Only 12 year olds can like this price of crap.

King's book was terrible.
Kubrick's film, was terrible.

But you're right, the film is better than the book.
>>
>>726641047
i love the movie. very subtle horror with a great atmosphere
>>
>>726641361
I just hate the actors.
Nicolson was terrible in it. And the female lead was just kinda... meh. Probably her face that bothered me more than her acting though.

I have to rewatch that film.... I enjoyed it enough the first run through a few years ago. But I can't help but think I missed a lot.
Not bad though, I'd say give it a go. Decent way to spend a few hours.

>>726641743
I'm not. It's my only legit criticism for the film. Nothing against it really. I just don't like the leads.

Really? Nicholson is the man. I think he's fantastic in it, especially cause i'm pretty sure he's actually insane in real life lol

As a Kubrick stan I understand that feeling. It's actually a very boring movie, but it's visually spectacular and WAY ahead of it's time. That's why it's so acclaimed. But it does grow on you the more you see it, as is the case with all of Kubrick's films, they're almost hypnotic.

It's really moreso that it became a part of social consciousness, leading into the groovy 70s it was yet another thing riding the wave causing people to think about things differently.

I really liked Eyes Wide Shut, especially the main scene at the party, however Kubrick died before it came out. He was a known perfectionist to the point of obsession, so I can't help but feeling his work wasn't done in the editing process. AI was good, but it was Speilburg emulating Kubrick. As much as Speilburg tried, he can't quite match the Kubrick feel. Pretty underrated movie though

Like I said, you don't have to like him, but I'm shocked that there isn't even a single movie of his that hasn't 'caught your eye or interest'. To each his own, I guess. What directors do tend to catch your eye?

I cut myself from time to time. Usually because I'm pruning a shrub by hand too fast and a finger gets caught in the blade of my sheers.

I've never seen Rick and Morty or Adventure Time or any of the "cool" things faggots drone on about.
I just don't like Kubrick's style. Just like I don't like Tolkien's writing style. I'm allowed my opinion even if it wavers from your own.

Probably my favorite movie.

For intelligent people. Characters are nuanced and I've noticed that many people I watch the movie with simply do not get it

That said it is not some kind of high-fallutin intellectial fare, it is a funny ass comedy movie about brothers primarily, but its value is in the details and interactions and little things.

I like a well told story. Which is why I hate Tolkien. Which is why I loved Gone Baby Gone.
I'd be more specific with Kubrick, but I really can't put my finger on what exactly I don't like about him.

I can't even talk about genres, because they all have there merits.
The Great Dictator comes to mind. Exceptional comedy film of an age long past. Same goes for Duck Soup. Marx brothers, instead of Chaplin.
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, great film. Same with Gran Torino.
The Warriors comes to mind... I think that was a movie about a hockey team if I remember correctly....
Bob and Doug Mckenzie, but only because I'm Canadian. Same for the Red Green Movie.

My tastes are complex, and often varied based on my mood at the moment. Like I assume applies to most people who aren't brain dead morons or kids.

I hate to be interpreted that way but I'll break it down for you as I have watched this movie with about 11 groups of people

high iq friends: think character quirks are hilarious, get the little things they're supposed to get ,understand why things are funny or cool or interesting in the context, etc

normal iq friends: think it is a comedy movie that is not very funny compared to "hot tub time machine"

it's just how it is. also, more intelligent people tend to be more well-read/cultured which means they understand jokes/plot better
