You start as an oiler in the crane, and concrete pump industry. You need to get a CDL first though as you have to drive vehicles over 25K in weight. For cranes it is starting as a rigger, and then getting trained on operating. You also need to be a signal man as well. This is so you know what rigging you use.
Concrete pumps is just learning how to operate it, and the setups. It is way harder than people think when they look at it. Most of the time it is like watching the grass grow, but if you have a bad day pumping you are not making enough. Then there are system jobs where you have to add hoses to get the mud where the boom will not reach. That is real work. But all in all it is good work.
