I mean the tube not being cut with the keyway is what keeps it locked. The part of the lock that pivots needs to go past the tube, and when the lock is down it catches on the tube. (The left post is filled in to prevent it sliding out the left side, and the catching is what prevents it from sliding out the right side.) I don't think a bit of tape is going to hold the lock in place, since it's meant to be catching on solid plastic. Also you could always try a different HTv2 clone, there's the Rikers which I believe is built to take a standard padlock.

I don't have any recommendations on metal cages though, I only own a real HTv2 and I've been saving up for a custom metal cage. Anything stainless steel w/o a hinged ring should be pretty comfy as long as it fits. As with any cheap cage though (plastic or metal) make sure you check for seams & sharp edges and sand them down.

There's an infographic about which cage to buy, but I don't have it. Maybe see if someone on /soc/ does? There's usually a chastity thread going.

Well the tape was a temporary, see if it helps. It fixed the original issue of the lock being able to shimmy to the left enough so that the lock could pop out. But by holding it the right, it was able to pop out on the other side.

So basically, the lock is too short it seems.

Is the rikers as comfortable as the HTv2? I'm thinking maybe I could modify the one I currently have to just hold in place. Right now I'm not 100% sure chastity is for me, and so keen to be able to have a temp device to check I enjoy it, before I properly am locked away and give my key away to someone. Would hate to spend hundreds of pounds to find I don't actually like it.

As far as I understand it should be about the same. The ring is shaped the same, the only difference is the top has a locking post and the tube has an extra vent on top (which honestly might be an improvement over the original.)
