Salary is figured yearly, calculated hourly based on 2080 work hours a year, and paid out weekly, biweekly, or monthly.
Self-employed work like hell and earn whenever a customer buys or what a client negotiates, then gets nailed hard on taxes because it wasn't deducted from a paycheck during the year/quarter.
