God will just have to push really really hard to fit the rich people into heaven

rich man cannot achieve faith/understanding in religion/complete giving into god/faith

rich in this case = tied to worldly things(money, woman, work)

a camel can go thru needle's eye because he just grazing lazily neighbour's lawn giving zero fuck about other ppl and thus can easily dive in deeper into christianity
>>
>>726239121
For the last two centuries it has been common teaching in Sunday School that there is a gate in Jerusalem called the eye of the needle through which a camel could not pass unless it stooped and first had all its baggage first removed. After dark, when the main gates were shut, travellers or merchants would have to use this smaller gate, through which the camel could only enter unencumbered and crawling on its knees! Great sermon material, with the parallels of coming to God on our knees without all our baggage. A lovely story and an excellent parable for preaching but unfortunately unfounded! From at least the 15th century, and possibly as early as the 9th but not earlier, this story has been put forth, however, there is no evidence for such a gate, nor record of reprimand of the architect who may have forgotten to make a gate big enough for the camel and rider to pass through unhindered.
>>

what he said --> >>726239771

>>726239121
The eye of the needle is an actual place.

The "Eye of the Needle" has been claimed to be a gate in Jerusalem, which opened after the main gate was closed at night. A camel could only pass through this smaller gate if it was stooped and had its baggage removed.

im suprised that christian communes are not more common. everyone works and donates their money to the common pot from that the bills are paid. people unwilling/unable to learn or retrain to work within 6 months are sent packing with a "prodigal son" provision. the amount saved by doing things in bulk would more than make up for the losses when people loose their jobs.

If you follow false gods and prioritize artificial creations of man (money), you will not get to Heaven.

Here's a better question: when did Athiests get to rename B.C. to B.C.E.?
1. B.C. has always been an abbreviation for "Before Christ" (and has nothing to do with an "era" as in "before common era", BCE)
2. A.D. has always been an abbreviation for "Anno Domini" which means "In the year of our Lord" in Latin.
3. BC and AD have always been dates signifying the date of the birth of Jesus Christ. Again, this has nothing to do with a "before common era".

Are Athiests so butthurt that they need to make up completely illogical things and have people believe BCE somehow is the same because it uses BC, yet they still ignore that date only has relevance to the birth of Christ?

The brainwashing by Athiests is deep.

Rich people will not go to heaven. I believe this is because back then the rich men boasted and used their wealth for evil therefore, God will not accept them into his kingdom. So, he means it is easier for a large camel to fit through the eye of a needle (the eye is the very end where fluid comes through) then for a boasting rich-man to enter God kingdom. But anyway, no one will read this.

Wrong again guys, I'm telling you, the idea is that for a camel to pass through a needle it has to move really fast. So, if you're rich and you want to go to heaven, you should die in a plane crash or preferably a rocket malfunction. However if none of these are available doing speed should count for something. if you change the needle, then it will no longer be a needle, thereby invalidating your effort. also its a parable, which is a _story_ meant to pass along _understanding_ of a concept. people like you are the reason the literal laws of the jews to allow them to go to heaven never work out, people always try to cut corners or change the meanings.
>>
>>726245902
Yeah, but many of the values originate from christianity (Evangelical Lutheran christian values to be precise) and have given movements such as "diakonissestiftelsen" and "diakonhjemmet", which is all about serving, doing good for doing good. Our society is based on christianity when it comes to values and that we still like the rituals, they work well for us.

However, there are few Danish that believe in God, probably around 30% believe in some god definitively. Some are like "meh, I don't know" but it is not that many that believe in god.

A needle is something one can use to sew things together by hand. If it looses that funcion, it's not a needle anymore. Doesn't have to be made of metal, nor be uniform size, but making one the size of a barn is pushing it.

The Jews thought that rich Jews were blessed by God and therefore were going to get whatever maximum blessing or benefit God was offering.

Jesus came by and destroyed that lie. He went on to say that the POOR in spirit were blessed, not the rich.

That it would be impossible for a rich Jew to be saved (and indeed we saw one walk away with a heavy heart, as he would not get rid of his earthly wealth.)

Jesus' point was this: The people you think are the most blessed are impossible to save. So the rest of you, the ones who are less likely in your own minds to be saved, are even more impossible.

But with God, all things are possible.

Meaning that salvation is only from God, and not based on anything one achieves in life. Jesus told the incredibly religious people of his day that the thieves and murderers would get into heaven while they would not.

The "camel through the eye of the needle" is literally supposed to indicate something that is impossible, regardless of what you think each individual word means. Just impossible.

Makes sense in Aramaic
An alternative linguistic explanation is taken from George M Lamsa's Syriac-Aramaic Peshitta translation2 which has the word 'rope' in the main text but a footnote on Matthew 19:24 which states that the Aramaic word gamla means rope and camel, possibly because the ropes were made from camel hair. Evidence for this also comes from the 10th century Aramaic lexicographer Mar Bahlul who gives the meaning as a "a large rope used to bind ships". (cf. http://www.aramaicnt.org/HTML/LUKE/evidences/Camel.html)

Literally just that it's hard for rich people to give up their wealth (if that's required) than for poor people.

Elsewhere is the story of the poor widow who gave all she had to live on (two pennies) but Jesus said gave more than all the rich people who contributed far more money. Not hard to give up all your wealth when it's 2 cents. A lot harder to give it up when you own say 2 million.

lets look at the textual context:
A rich man approached Jesus, asking him how he can enter the kingdom.
Jesus tells the man that he must abandon all of his world possessions and follow him and his teachings.
The man cannot let go of his earthly possessions, and so wanders away downtrodden.

So in essence, one must be willing to let go of all their worldly possessions and comfort for the sake of following God.

Actually tons of evidence, might want to check your facts. Some are even within the gospel itself. Why did the Jewish leaders pay off the guard watching over the tomb when the penalty was death? Just saying you can't make such a blanket statement without addressing some tough questions that point to some miracles having occurred.

Why say that Jesus turned water into wine at a party or that God's spirit descended on him like a dove or that he rose up to heaven in front of such a large crowd when it would be so easy to dispute? Why not say he appeared to one person privately as Mormonism and Islam do?

Jesus (actually Yeshua) was a common name -- it's the equivalent of Joshua in modern English speaking countries. Of course you are going to find people with that name in history.

Second, being a traveling preacher performing miracles was a common occupation at the time. The biblical stories of Jesus are likely an amalgamation of multiple different preachers of the time. Jesus wasn't one person, he was a smattering of legends that all were attributed to a single person.

Think about it, who actually claims to know Plato? As far as i am aware, only a supposed enemy of his (that could be made up), some books he supposedly wrote point to him existing, though never explicitly state it, and only accounts of him existing are his supposed students (kind of like the apostles) who may have just been politically motivated to create a false person for reasons that are unclear.

>I can tell you really want to disprove the gospels

Not him, but disproving the gospels is trivially easy.

The Gospel of Luke places the birth of Jesus under the reign of Herod (37 BCE - 4 BCE) - "In the days of King Herod of Judea..." (Luke 1:5) and links it to the census of Quirinius.

There are major difficulties in accepting Luke's account: the census in fact took place in AD 6, ten years after Herod's death in 4 BCE; there was no single census of the entire empire under Augustus; no Roman census required people to travel from their own homes to those of distant ancestors; and the census of Judea would not have affected Joseph and his family, living in Galilee.

We've known the Gospels are false for quite some time.

Luke mentions an entire book of facts. Once a historian has been proven right so thoroughly, it lends credit to the rest of his claims.

Were you alive 2000 years ago? If not then I don't think you know what contemporary means.

Archeologists can't find any evidence for such gates, not only in Jerusalem but as a concept.
We know for certain Jerusalem had regular gates wagons could go through so what's the point?
Face it, you just want this to be true because you want to keep the moral high ground while refusing to follow Jesus''s teachings and give your welt to those in need.
>>

provide the verse pls.
Also the book of micah is OT, we are talking NT.

So, these gates that camels find hard to get through, hence the verse, are suddenly easy for camels to get through

Ad Hominem.
>Archeologists can't find any evidence for such gates, not only in Jerusalem but as a concept.
perhaps they were lost with time?
>We know for certain Jerusalem had regular gates wagons could go through so what's the point?
good point. My greentext was just providing an alternative view on why they might have had the camel gates.
>>
>>726256812
The rest of your argument is based on your not knowing what contemporary means.

No one wrote about Jesus during the time of his supposed life. The earliest accounts of Jesus were written decades after his alleged death.

You also don't seem to understand that it doesn't actually matter if Plato existed or not -- he could be a fabrication and nothing would change about the value of the ideas attributed to him. The same can't be said for Jesus since he claimed that his teaching had divine backing. If Jesus didn't exist, the ideas of Jesus no longer have any divine authority behind them.
>>

I was talking about armies trying to storm in through one of these weaker gates. It would be like a choke-point and the army trying to invade would have many casualties.
>>
>>726255445
You forgot the rest of the argument. It doesn't really matter if such gates make theoretical sense (they don't >>72625687 ) if they didn't exist in the first place and the rest of the story (literally the next sentence) doesn't match your claims.

Ah yes, I see now that you merely quoted a Wikipedia page lol. Laughable, but admirable nonetheless.

The conclusion drawn on the same page, which you conveniently neglected to include, is that Luke made a mistake, not that the entire account was somehow "disproved".

Again, you reallllly want it to be false, but the facts just point to it being true.

because he was right there

this is a myth. The earlies mentions were in the pauline epistles, written around 50 years later. well within the lifetime of witnesses to his life, death, and ressurection.
>...he could be a fabrication and nothing would change about the value of the ideas attributed to him
so what about jesus' teaching to "love thy naeighbor as thyself" and suchforth? are those invalid since his backing might not have been divine?

If Herod was already dead when Jesus was born, then what about the story of Herod ordering the deaths of young children? Most Christian children are taught this story but it must not have happened.

If the gospel authors are unreliable on such basic facts, why believe what they wrote on anything else?

So many edges come out whet Yeshua is discussed. Y'all can't prove God does not exist, You may argue we can't prove he does. There is more evidence for him than is against him. However, a wicked & adulterous generation desires a sign, and none shall be given, save the sign of Yonah......

All signs & evidence are moot. You are either asleep or goat....you choose the easy wide path or the winding narrow one. No one is begging y'all. His testimony stands on its own. We all know the truth, there is no pretending, only denial.

Just remember, the king comes quickly and his reward is with him......judgement is begun, not much time to decide which side you wanna be on......

The eye of the Beadle refers to a gate in Jerusalem which was small and not very high. I canal is very stubborn so it is hard to make it bend down so it's hump can fit underneath the gate. The sentiment is that being rich can be a distraction form God and it is hard to have money and God. However this was at a time when most rich people were evil and got rich from abusive and extorting others and the idea of improving your lot in life wasn't really realistic. Today rich people work hard to manage wealth and increase their wealth and many rich people In America became rich through hard work because they immagrated here with almost nothing.
>>
>>726259009
Yes i was wrong about gate, i was just providing a perspective either way though.

Ad hominem was not appreciated though.
>>
>>726239121

The 'eye' of a needle is the hole that the thread goes through. See, 2000 years ago needles looked entirely different to the way that they do today, and that hole was approximately the size of an olympic grade hoola hoop. Its a bit of a squeeze, but a camel could reasonably force his way into such a hoop.

There's plenty of thorough research out there for you. Historians have spent a long time looking into this stuff and you won't have trouble finding scholarly articles. Your religious leaders won't want you to look into this stuff though.

Maybe take a chance to stop and ask yourself why you're so willing to believe accounts of magical miracles but you demand mountains of evidence that a gospel writer story wrong. Maybe you should apply the same level of skepticism to magic, but only if you want to be intellectually honest.
