Ancientfag here with some semi-relevant information. It was a weird time. The site itself was kind of a buggy mess, and crashes weren't uncommon. 4chan culture was coming into its own, and it was still very oldnet. Lots of goons (mostly from FYAD and ADTRW) and futaba/2ch people populated it, and newfags were just starting to flood the place. It was a hell of a lot slower. Raids were just starting to become commonplace, and all of the humor was still dark but far sillier and less post-post-ironic.
