5 More things that died in the 90s thread.
1. World with jokes and not unfunny memes
2. Basic human dialogue and not texting
3. Less black and white politics
4. Less limitation on art
5. Less fixation on looks

So fucking tired of all the unoriginal bullshit going around these days. If it isn't unfunny, reposted memes, it's the words "cuck" "commie" or "trump sucks". Like what the fuck? Give me some original fucking words and thoughts. Braindead fish.

People born in the 1900's are the last generation of a good generation.

Thing's that died in the 1900's

3. The famous stick and hoop
4. Wholesome incest
5. Slavery

4. None of these things are unobjectively bad. Sensitive faggot

I love how '90s kids' try to cling to every shred of the last century that they can. As if it makes them better than the millennials. When they are in fact millennials themselves. If you weren't born before at least 85, you are a millennial, and trying to cling to a decade that you don't even remember is sad.

You can admit there's a substantial difference between people born between 90-95 and people born afterwards. Most of the time when millennial are referred to the first thing that comes to mind is someone born either in 95 96 or later. I mean the 80's maxed out at the beginning of the 90's anyways. It didn't really shift until 94 or 95

Born in 71. We were the first to get fucked over, and we knew the boomers would screw both our generations long ago. I remember talk about the coming "generational war". I'm actually shocked at those from both our generations falling for the alarmist horseshit that is allowing the boomers to give us one last buttfuck before kicking off.

That's probably just the sliding window of time, because it seems to take 30+ years before the rose colored glasses kick in. But nostalgia for the 80s seems to be on the upswing (it's taken over radio, if you ever listen while driving).
>>
>>725377361
Yeah, and it's amazing how much of the old folks Koolaid the millennials are drinking. They support Obamacare, but the whole point of that bill was to massively overcharge the young "invulnerables" in their 20s, and use that money to subsidize the B\oomers (who are sucking up healthcare like no other generation ever).
>>
>>725374929
Biggest truth on here
>>
>>725379052
Unfortunately it snowballs down to all of the generations that follow.

We (gen x) were characterized like millennials back in the day. Lazy, slackers, apathetic, anti-establishment, but we were really just sick of the boomers' shit.
>>
>>725380403
In my experience, the job market crumbled as manufacturing was sold off, real estate skyrocketed before we could buy, college tuitions quadrupled and we were left with an environmental catastrophe to clean up. As well, numerous desirable positions in government and big business are still held by Boomers because they refuse to retire.

Came of age in the late 90's. Born in the 80's. Arcades were already on thier way out by the early 90's. They were around but not the social phenomenon anymore. The 80's were kinda shitty TBH but the 90's had good music, movies and culture without the baggage of 9/11 happening. Wages were around the same then as now for starting employees but it went alot further. Everyone is fucking broke now.

I think you guys are fixating on too small a sliver of time. Regardless of who's president or which generation is in charge the economy is a giant pendulum. Shit was good in the 20-early 30s, 30-40s bad, 50-70s good (gi bill/marshal plan cause this extended period), 80-earl 90s bad, 90-early 00s good, then we hit the dot com bubble followed up by the housing bubble which led to the recession, I think we're on the upswing now. But like I said its regardless of politics or generation it's just the way the economy works in a global society
>>
>>725382638
I think you're confused about how fuzzy the borders are. For instance, Gen X can start anywhere from 1960 to 1965, and end anywhere between 1976 and 1984.
>>
>>725374327

blu-ray didn't exist in the 90's you dumb faggot
>>
>>725383230
Yeah I've looked this up multiple times and every list I find corresponds to the pic +/- 2 years. Regardless the post I was responding to was claiming the the general idea of what constitutes a millennial were born around 95 or later. Meaning he thinks of gen z as millennials and by extension millennials as gen x
>>
>>725383615
Yes, the poster you were replying to is wrong. But it's a lot more than +/-2 years. Millennials are usually early 1980s through mid-1990s, but the early end can slip into the mid-1970s and the end can slip into the mid-Aughts. Gen X is at least as fuzzy if not more (because there are competing definitions, Baby Bust vs. cultural shift). WP actually has a decent summary of the different ranges for the various cohorts.

I'd agree with this for the most part except for the limitation on art thing. The art scene is better now than it's ever been in human history, with a greater quality and variety of art than ever. Yeah, there are a few groups in the wings trying to tell people what things are and are not okay to create, but they're mostly ignored.
>>
>>725386402
Do you have anything to back that up? I mean as far as I can tell unemployment, avg income, home ownership, basically the standard means of economic stability have been on a steady rise for a few years now based on the numbers. As for political tensions where exactly are we talking about? Sure the Middle East is a bomb but it always has been so that's nothing new. Most 1st world countries are getting along fine without any fear of armed conflict. Maybe the alarmist media is spouting differently but take a look at actual statistics and facts and let me know what would cause you to believe we are about to hit a disaster

I'll give it to you that politics in America are a shit show right now. But I think that's being propagated by obstructionist politicians on both sides of the aisle and alarmist media also on both sides. I don't think that translates to a giant meltdown. The economy will keep chugging along regardless and the average citizen will continue to hit his 9-5 job and come home to his family. The political tension in Washington means that were just going to have a stagnant government and college kids from both parties are going to be butt hurt. Not much beyond that and really not that different than the last 10 years

It's actually not. There are more slaves now than there have been at any point in human history, and I'm not one of those, "if you have a job you're a wageslave" dudes, I mean actual, literal, imprisoned slaves. Human trafficking is still a multi billion dollar industry, and even though per capita slavery is down, there are so many more people nowadays that the total number of slaves is actually higher than it's ever been.

When we weren't making history we were chilling, so it's just us being faggots. It's not like there weren't humans when there wasn't human history to record. >When we were cavemen shitting in fields we had everything we needed.
Yeah, sure. Except we died younger, had more violent lives, suffered from more communicable disease, suffered depredation from predators, had almost no art and no philosophy, and generally spent all our time being stupid, expressionless apes.

>how can you say things have ended up better?
Because, as implied above, we're now healthier, larger, we live longer, suffer from less disease, we're at the top of the food chain, and we have so much abundance that large segments of our population can devote their time to art and expression. We're exploring the secrets of the universe, and starting to understand some tiny fraction of this enormous wonder we call creation.

Why are things better? We have more art, more knowledge, and less evisceration via lion.

>Now we have all these stupid problems like the air quality and temperature.
Yeah, whereas back in the day we only had to deal with predators, thousands of different diseases we had no way of treating, and half of our kids dying before they reached maturity.

>Most of what we eat these days is junk.
That's a matter of personal choice. Don't push your shitty life choices off on everyone else. I eat great food.

>We keep creating problems, how can you find this efficient?
Because it's literally true. In terms of direct mechanical efficiency, we're literally more efficient now in terms of energy expended relative to work done than any other species that has ever live, including our past selves.

>Nothing means anything even with context. Context is just a relation to another useless scrap.

This is going to sound condescending, but it seems the best way to put this: nature isn't like fern gully or avatar. In the wild everyone isn't living happily together, peacefully coexisting. Things are still dying in brutal, painful ways, all the time.

Killing off other species isn't purely a human thing, any species will do it if it serves them and they have the opportunity, just look at invasive species.

All species are sinners and rapists of the earth my friend, humans just happen to be better at it than anyone else. Plus chipmunks don't have art or science, so fuck them anyway.

I agree completely, that lastbit about the chipmunks was just a joke. I believe we should avoid harming other species when possible, I just think it might be overly pessimistic to write off humanity as shit when our only misdeed is doing what all species do: trying to thrive.

On top of that we do somuch more: no other species worries about art or ethics or discovery, no other species has the presence of mind to weep and feel guilt when we wipe out another life form. We may be the difficult, needy youngest children of our earth, but she'd be much poorer for our passing.

I don't think abandonning relationships entirely is the way, I just think people are starting to realize that there should never be dire legaland financial consequences for leaving a relationship. Plus, humans aren't naturally monogamous from a bilogical standpoint.

Back in the oldeb days when we needed marriage as a social binding it made sense, but now?
>>
kids from the 90s were disconnected, i mean, just remember how life was, we could go to some friends house or something and our parents didnt have too many ways to contacts us.

That means that in some lvl we learn to trust and keep promises to ppl. If you got to meet someone in one place at one time you better be there, no last minute message to cancel.

Also, social skills were necesary for everything, now kids base theyr social life in likes and follows, with no real human interactions.

At long term i believe our society will end like all those cringe faggots.
>>
>>725403799

I'd say the biggest disaster we are on the brink of is environmental. There's plenty of evidence to back that up.

Also, we're about due for another world war. I think it's already happening low key, the governments just aren't making a big deal out of it. There's no large scale shit going down yet, but how long has it been since troops haven't been deployed somewhere? Then there's North Korea. There's no hard evidence suggesting we're on the brink of political or economic disaster, but I agree with the anon that said you can feel it in the air. >If you do find a girl who fits you real well, you wouldn't want to keep her around even if it's not exclusive?
Yes I would, but there is little likelihood of finding such a girl. Plus, you could end up 20 years in to a relationship and all of a sudden everything goes wrong, and this is what happened to many from the baby boom generation.

I think you underestimate women. There are just as many cute nerd girls as there are vapid sluts.

You consider the possibility of failure to be a valid reason not to attempt something?
>>

>You consider the possibility of failure to be a valid reason
The thing is, these days it is beyond a possibility. Statistically, the possibility of finding a long term partner is pretty slim; and a life time one, nearly impossible.
>>
>>725404914
indeed you can't fuck with a screen, but look the apps for search mate and all that shit, also, its not the same to flirt with a girl face to face that using fb or whatever.

Also, im not saying all kids are doing that, but some papers show that new generations find more satisfaction in internet interactions that face to face interactions.

Yes, so the sheep that can't turn away from the screens will continue getting more socially fragile, while those of us that actually socialize will have well adjusted, socially capable children who will walk as lions among the herds of sheeple, employing that most fearsome of weapons: social skills!

-The air

-Morality

We're creating problems that we're not gonna be able to fix. It's going to get to the point where the planet is unlivable. Then we'll move to a new planet and do it all over again.
>>
>>725407325
Where are you getting your information? Mgtow has nothing to do with marriage, it is a Heat Seeking Missile launcher that floats around and kills lots of people and posts weird shit on the internet trying to distract you from the issue that they aren't human. Stop fooling people.
>>
>>725407325
>Hence the reason people hate mgtow.
I donct think people hate you guys so much as they don't understand you. I was out drinking with some friends a couple months back, and the topics of MGTOW and MRAs came up, to much amusement and mockery by my largely liberal friends, but when I actually explain what you people are about (the more reasonable of you, anyway) they quit laughing.

I don't think it's so much hate as encouraged ignorance.

Human history is one giant list of problems we've fixed, and the problems we've created by fixing the old ones. Yes. Those that are opposed often operate in two ways. By planting the myth that members of mgtow are simply sore at women as a result of their "lack of success" with them; or the myth that they're mysogynistic homosexuals.
>>
>>725396808
Other creatures may destroy others in order to thrive, but they don't destroy the whole damn planet. Once the planet dies so do we, and all of our valuable knowledge (which most of it isn't that valuable aside from making our lives easier or more fun). Us knowing things doesn't benefit the earth or the universe at all, nor does art. The earth would be much better off without humanity.
>>

>>725407539

I agree with both of you.

War is on much smaller scales than it ever was and global mortality rate from war is the lowest in history despite how it may seem with all the war coverage.

World poverty is down, access to education is up, technology is encroaching on miracles.

But that global warming thing isnt cool. But i also have a tonne of faith in humanity to fix that shit. Unimaginable solutions are coming every day.

Theres a canadian firm for example that can draw co2 out of the air and through some chemical process i dont quite understand turn it back into a burnable fuel.

Its technically renewable because even though youre burning it again if we mass adopted that technology net carbon emissions would be negative.

And thats just one of quite a few solutions ive seen. We'll solve it, no worries.

You don't think there's some truth to that? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all of you guys are like that, but I've never heard of a dude who was in a happy, satisfying relationship, who suddenly decided to up and become a MGTOW. You guys are making a lot of smoke, so where's the fire? Yeah, part of it is society's acceptance/encouragement of materialism in women, but you don't think there's an element of personal disappointment and bitterness there?

Not trying to call you out, just wondering. I agree that there are a lot of myths about mens groups, especially MRAs, but most of those myths have at least some element of truth behind them.

>>725408367
This is essentially my thought. We face many problems, but we'll develop ways to get past them. Humans are more powerful now than we've ever been, with more scientists and educated people. I think we can fix it. And if we don't, whatever kills most of us won't kill *all* of us, and the next generations will find a way to overcome the problems we failed to solve for them.
>>
>>725408514
>you don't think there's an element of personal disappointment and bitterness there?
Perhaps for a few, but I think the majority of males involved in mgtow have been in relationships, and, although they were not rejected by women, have seen first hand their manipulative nature and their shallowness, especially where money is concerned.
>>
>>725408202
Ill step in for the anon.

http://www.apa.org/topics/divorce/

The american psychology association reports a 40-50% divorce rate.

Factor in a fast dropping marriage rate as the new generations enter adulthood

http://www.bentley.edu/impact/articles/nowuknow-why-millennials-refuse-get-married

And it paints a (granted, inconclusive picture) that it seems were less in the mindset of life partners than previous generations.

The divorce rate has dropped in recent years, sure, but that could also attribute to less people getting married, so those that do are definitely in it to win it.

The problem is when you try to go beyond the statistics it gets super subjective. Theres so many causes and factors you cant point to anything.

But what i have read that best matches my own world view is lower religious pressure and family pressure, and a more individualised and free society where people understand divorce as a viable option to an unhappy marriage unlike previous generations who take the better or worse vow as sacred.

My parents have been together 30 years. They are both great people but not a match. They are not happy. But as my dad always told me "i made a promise!!" which is kind of bullshit to me.

>their manipulative nature and their shallowness
See, this right here is what keeps me away from liking you guys, because that is an incredibly narrow, pessimistic look at women. Yeah, some women are just manipulative bitchy gold diggers, but that's a small number of them. Most women are like most men, just hoping they'll find a good person to chill with and occasionally fuck.

I think what you guys do in labeling all or most women with those negative traits is like taking what the feminists did with their bullshit toxic masculinity theory, and turning it around onto women.

Women aren't bad people. Men aren't bad people. They're just people.

>>725409175
>And it paints a (granted, inconclusive picture) that it seems were less in the mindset of life partners than previous generations.
Yes, but that doesn't really support his claim. The number of people who enjoy shitting on their partner during sex is *much* smaller than the number of people who want to live happily ever after, but if I wanted to get shit on I'd still be able to find that pretty damn fast. Relationships aren't about abundance, they're about figuring out what you want, finding someone who's interested in giving it to you, then making compromises with that person to reach a happy middle ground. Even if only 1 in 100 people actually wanted a committed relationship, it still wouldn't be hard to find them, because there are BILLIONS of people. People are getting worried about decreasing availability? Be a shame if you actually had to work for what you want, huh?
>>
>>725408237
More important, the use of social networks or new technology isn't the problem. The problem is that new generations use techology in the lazys way. They are used to get all quickly.

When we were kids a homework made us search and look for different means to get the info. We had used to control the frustration and learn skills to resolve problems.

Kids from now days are becoming more lazys and useless in problematic scenarios.
>>
>>725409974
You know Socrates complained about growing literacy, because he thought it make kids lazy and stupid, that they wouldn't have to remember anything or think anything through if humanity just wrote down all the answers?
>>
>>725409860
As i said.. Once you start speculating as you are, (and im about to do back) its opinion and subjectivity.

Dont get me wrong i see what youre at, i have a great gf, and we had to work a lot of stuff out but we have a super functional relationship thats very fulfilling to both of us.

Doesnt mean well be the same in 5 years, doesnt mean some outside shit can happen thatll wreck it, doesnt mean we wont just get bored and move on.

The quarrelsome marriage is a story old as time, what if (and i mean what if) we just arent meant to be around any single human that long and that intimitely? What if we have drives to seperate and explore other options and we've been denying ourselves that and building a culture around fidelity for thousands of years because the church said so?

Remember there were even states in the US that tried to pass criminal laws against sex outside of marriage. Its pretty universal now that thats fuckin retarded as shit.

What if 100 years from now we evolve even further culturally and see any kind of permanent union as bullshit a bunch of nuts used to believe?

Its complicated mang. You cant say "just make it work" just like you cant say "just make a million dollars." so many factors, some uncontrolled, go into it.
>>
>>725410701
I'm not saying marriage is a good or sensible thing, nor was I even defending it, I was talking about the other anon's claim that finding a stable long term relationship is almost impossible.
>>
>>725409860
>Most women are like most men
I don't think I'm taking this out of context. Do you really believe this?

I think what you guys do in labeling all or most women with those negative traits is like taking what the feminists did with their bullshit toxic masculinity theory, and turning it around onto women.
Yes, I cannot believe I forgot this. The third favorite argument against mgtow is to compare them to their enemy. I think the contrast is apparent; feminism fights for "equal rights" and mgtow wishes to go its own way, and to literally not associate with females, at least on a social level.

The radiation from the nuclear power plant meltdown in Japan has spread through most of the Pacific, The Great Barrier Reef is virtually dead, there's so much trash is the oceans that they might as well be considered land fills, the rain forests are disappearing hundreds of acres at a time, all of the majestic species are going extinct, the ozone layer looks like swiss cheese, mental illness is on the rise, we're slowly running out of all natural resources (oil, gold, iron, etc. there may be a decent amount left at the moment, but it's nor infinite), then there's CO2 levels but that's honestly the least of my concerns as that could be easily fixed if we put our minds to it... Need I go on? These are all scientifically proven things. We've known it all for over a decade. They were fixable, some of them might still be currently, but we're not doing anything about them. We're still making most of them worse. Google any of these and you'll find sources confirming everything I've said.

Any one of these might be fixable, but we keep adding to our environmental problems without solving any of them. Eventually it's going to be too much.

All generations have some merit due to the face they were successful in launching the next, also they made tremendous mistakes which we can either have learned from or continued untill change occurred.

Progression is valuable, so future generations are thus.

I just ask that this generation start using instant information to better our stake in this universe, rather waste it on trolling one another.

Don't do this man, don't lock up, let's try to talk this out. My last post may have been a little too aggressive, and I apologize for that, but I really do want to see why you see things this way.

So, going down the line, trying to be reasonable,

>Do you really believe [that your average woman is like your average man in regards to just wanting a happy relationship]?
Yes. People just want to find someone they love, and be happy with them. I don't know why that seems like a strange statement to you.

>The third favorite argument against mgtow is to compare them to their enemy.
Is MGTOW an enemy of feminism? I don't know anything about that, I was just pointing out that there's a lot of commonality between radical MGTOWS and radical feminists, that both groups tend to hold a very negative, biased view of the opposite gender.

>mgtow wishes to go its own way
>We want to go our own way and do our own thing without organization or creed, which is why we grouped up, made an organization, and started engaging in social activism.
What am I misunderstanding there? "We aren't a movement" really doesn't apply to MGTOW.

But we're actively working on them, and if they really do get so bad that they're killing a lot of people, we'll work a hell of a lot harder dude.

My argument was never "no problems exist" or "the problems aren't that bad", it was that "humans are smart, capable, and resourceful, so we'll find a way to make it through."
