Much of the general fluffy background acknowledges MLP as the source, and Hasbio's deliberate effort to cash in on the MLP craze as being part of it. So fluffies that look like characters from the show are more valuable in the stories, etc.

As part of the art movement I don't think they're considered MLP any more. It's its own thing now.
