I need a game I can download and play right now. I don't want some crazy convoluted story. Just something I can start up when I'm bored and kill a few hours. Have PC, can download some emulators if needed.

Xenogears was the most overrated game of all time.

So many autists have been fapping to that game for two fucking decades now.

I have it and I do like it quite a bit, but it's not THAT great. It's a halfbaked rpg that is neither particularly original nor executed well.

And don't give me that "if only they had more money and time" bullshit, because that SAME FUCKING TEAM did get more time and money, and made Xenosaga, and everyone shits on that series (although I find that to be also fine, but again, not particularly outstanding, especially coming off of the tail end of the heyday of linear jrpgs).

I should add that I got it the year it was released, used, for a mere $20 lololol. So it's not like I popped it in 15 years later and can't get into the old school rpgs; it was new as shit when I played it and I still wasn't THAT impressed.

And I looked it up. 20 of the people from Xenogears did in fact transfer over to the Xenosaga team, including the producer, director, and writer, and they had a larger budget, more time, a bigger staff, and free creative reign. So there is absolutely no excuses. Xenogears is half-baked overhyped shit that did not in fact have any potential if it had more money and time.

After they made xenosaga, they made Xenoblade which is very highly rated.

Square had told them they could use characters from xenogears in xenosaga. Xenosaga was a prequel. But at the last second square's legal team told them they would not make the deal, so they had to turn it into something else. And it was just OK. Nowhere near as good as xenogears.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but the number of high ratings, high value of the game, and sheer numbers of "autistic" people that seem to love it skews you into the realm of being the minority with the differing opinion.
