I have sorrow for that man. How can someone expect to go straight from uni their dream job, they need to build, it can take years and years to get there after uni. Maybe the universities need to explain to these delusional students that the world isn't going to bow at their feet the moment they graduate.

I tend to blame parents for shit like this.

I used to date a british girl that can't accept the word "no." No matter how many times, nor how impossible the circumstances.
We even had feelings for each other, and could have made it work.

dude had like 5 years with his degree, wasn't even a fucking feminist arts degree or some shit and he could only work at call centre
Might as well could have dropped out of school and do the same shit, but have enough saved up for a house instead of a million dollars loan

but why? im german and if you studied anything even remotely useful you can pretty much choose your job..
>>
>>725127518
that's the biggest problem with the university mill - unless you're from a top tier Uni then getting a PhD will most of the time just harm you. This kids go into Uni expecting to get a degree/PhD and go straight into the best careers ever.

To anybody at Uni in the same situation: take it from me - a Masters in Physics and MSci in Biomedical. Eng. : Broaden your horizons. Great careers and jobs dont fall out of the sky. Read read read. Learn as many skills as possible and keep you eyes open.

I did lots of online courses next to my Physics degree about personal finance, corporate finance, book keeping, real estate investment and managed to get a part-time job next to Uni in Real Estate investment consulting that pays me 40$/hr.

Be smart about it, don't just bank on a degree to get places. Absolutely do a PhD if it's your dream study field, but never just do it or take on one because "there's a position open".
>>
>>725130993
the problem about getting a PhD are manifold, but the main issues are:
1) A PhD often overqualifies you for many jobs. Why would a company hire a PhD guy that will probably have to get the same amount of training as any other BSc or MSc and still demand more pay than others
2) PhDs are highly specialised. Doing a PhD in Physics could be a job like "Researching the nano-scale structure mesophase-transitions induced by temperature and hydration gradients of phytantriol". What in the fuck are you gonna do with that. Unless you find a company that needs an expert in that chemical you studied, you're fucked. (Phytantriol is a bad example, because it's used everywhere - but still)

Even in Germany you'll face those problems. And as an Austrian I'd never recommend you go there as a Physicist.
>>
>>725131448
Research fields, uni teacher, underpaid.
Now another problem appears, if Austria is like France, subventions for reasearch in uni are more and more hard to get.
Get a degree they said, the highest one they said, you'll get a job and be happy they said.

That's an interesting question.
Here's the flip side of this, one of my co-workers has a phd in skin electroporation. Companies are practically begging her to join. Too bad that despite all her knowledge she's retarded and still works for 1k€ in a shit company
>>
>>725133362
Fairly familiar with that, I was doing sharp electrode electrophysiology on mouse blood vessels.

i was looking at beta amyloid and how it affected sk/ik channel leak and its effect on membrane potential/inhibition of vascular autoregulation.
it has the potential to blow alzhemiers wide open.

my boss I work for is a huge asshole and didn't listen to me and wanted to go in other directions despite the fact that i had a bunch of data to back up my hunch, as well as a bunch of papers that proved my experimental design to be sound.

so i resigned, compiled all my prelim data as well as my skeleton papers i had drafted and sent them to other labs that did similar work at different Unis.
Because fuck that guy, i want alzheimers to get cured and i dont need my name on a paper, i just want to see peoples lives improve.
>>
So should I be scared to go into debt to try and further my education? I'm a shit student and I learn slowly from some very bad and untreated short and long term memory loss. My handwriting is also extremely poor and slow so notes are hard.

I wanted to get into welding but my beads were always shit. I started on Codecademy but I wasn't really learning with it. I personally think I'm best suited to public speaking but have 0 idea how to get started and I'm starting to develop a stutter.
>>
>>725129492

No one believes me! I've said for years I had problems but nothing was ever done, my mother has memory issues and so does my father so I don't understand what's so unfounded about me having it fucking amplified.

I don't have a car to drive myself to get checked either, and my roommates cars are both fubar and can't make long trips. One of them has had large bit of engine fall out and he is still using it. Fuck life dude, this isn't fair.
>>
>>725133646
> Non-neuroscience b/ro

What does "sk/ik"(channel), stand for?
>>
>>725134334
They are potassium leak channels that are responsible for regulating the excitability of electircally reactive cells (in the case of the ones we were studying, they were smooth muscle cells).
>>
>>725134425
Ahh. Thank you

How do you get over her? The girl who was your best friend and lover for half a decade. I know it's hard, but it wasn't super hard for her. I'm just trying to not be a fucking loser. I'm doing a lot better than I was, but nights like this I still get fucked up. I know one day it'll be better, and she'll be just a faded happy memory but is there anything I can do to speed that process along?
>>
I have a huge interest in studying to become a pathologist or biology researcher but I had a shitty poorfag life growing up and didn't care about school until like a semester into college when I found out it doesn't have to be garbage. Still anxious and depressed and thinking about the future is really daunting cuz sometimes I think that the research i want to do would not benefit from my employment at all

Welding is a useful skill, try different types like arc and Mig on pieces of scrap metal to get your work neater. I don't know if you have access to a place to practice but on a CV/resume it proves to an employer that you're hands on.
>>
>>725133747
You can also look into underwater welding, a friend of my father did that.
Hard job, 2-3weeks full time job ( incl saturday/sunday) then 1or2 weeks off.
But pretty good money, have a look online.
