One of my friends from work thought he was a successful heroin addict too, and by all means, anyone who didn't know about his habit, wouldn't have guessed.
I have even tasted the end of the dragon myself, and the sugar is sweet, but 3 months ago, he was sold fentanyl instead of heroin, and overdosed in his car. I miss my friend, and no matter how high functioning, or well adjusted you think you are on heroin, you will eventually fuck up.

Just started, done it probably 30 times now, once for 2 weeks straight now it's just like once a day for a few days, then a few days off, then once a day, few days off, kinda deal. Out of the 30 about 10 of them were from shooting up. I felt withdrawals after the two week bender but I've been pretty much fine since then. I was like you. I did lots of different drugs and none had power over me. I could go as hard as I wanted, get bored, and leave it forever. Then I started doing opiates as a way to sleep and to kill pain. It was fun at first. I considered the times I had with my dope friends as some of the best. I was doing it when I wanted and stopping when I wanted. One day I went on a 2 night vacation with my gf. No big deal, a nice time away from home! I spent all day enjoying myself and that evening 36 hours later I was screaming in a shower and thrashing my arms. Oh I must have been sick with the flu I thought. I still have multiple cars, all my possessions, I'm fine! 2 years later I had no vehicles of my own, no real home, sold all my things, and was in the midst of a constant psychosis. I needed 200 dollars a day at my worst. Even my girlfriend of 6 years who stuck with my through it all and whom I terrorized couldn't imagine how much I needed just to be okay. Every 4-5 hours it was time for a 4-5 bag shot. I'm nearly two years clean now and back to racing open wheel, drag, and just bought another sport bike as a toy. You can't control it. No one can. Mark my words. You can't.

I was a willing fentanyl user for a few months. Death is really just part of the experience, it's something you come to accept. There were many nights where I didn't think I would wake up, and every day I did wake up was a blessing.

not sure with heroin, but it's not all too different than OC.
OC tolerance tops out around 2400-3000mgs/day for example; that's probably around $800-1600/day of heroin. so unless she had that kind of money, she was still stuggling to stay well, which is where the other bad behavior came from.

i know what oc's tolerance ceiling is like because i hit it. i had limitless access for 8 years, during which time i graduated from a good university and maintained a good job, had friends who didn't know i used (because i just acted normal, despite needing so much oc just to not be sick that the same dosage would kill 3 non-tolerant people)
one of my many doctors was an old man like that. he walked around his pain management practice always with a max strength actiq lozenge in his mouth (fentanyl lollipop), and the trash cans were full of the used sticks.
crazy old guy got busted giving them to strippers at a club. god bless that guy. eventually they yanked his license, but damn

I've tried heroin a couple times to know what's up with it. Snorted, I don't mainline. Heroin is useless. It's a dumb physical high that comes and goes and leaves you in a rather shit mood afterwards.

Because nobody takes hard drugs just to feel sober *all the time*. at best, you're taking just enough to maintain to get through the work day or similar. but at some point, you want to get high again. so you get high a few nights, the dose you need to maintain during the day goes up.
even if all you did was maintain, the dose would still go up. eventually, the dose exceeds what you can afford if its below the ceiling.
so basically anyone short of a multimillionaire is going to have trouble after a while.

and yes, the reason there's no good documentation on the ceilings of full agonists is because the dosages are reserved (until recently, anyway) for very few... people with serious illegal access (like, say, someone who bought directly from out the factories back door), a few people with very liberal doctors who will be dead very soon///

Although I disagree with the argument that you have to increase the dose once you found your maintenance dose. Best examples are substitutes. People taking the same amount of methadone over many years (I did).
