That being said, my favorite Smash moment ever was when I was playing a match in the dorm suite with a couple of roommates and I used Peach and one of my plebby bros was using Roy, the only character he played, ever because he was a pleb faggot with zero skill. Corneria, stock 3. I was bombarding him with turnips and just wiping the floor with him, he couldn't do shit, and I would float away like a lil bitch when he got too close. He kept getting progressively madder. First life, he soaked up enough damage that one of the stage's space fighters laser blasted him into oblivion, 2nd life I plucked a Bomb-omb and chucked it into his face, boom, dead. I think I had taken less than 20% damage at this point. I look over at my friend and he's bright red with fury. I continue my vicious radish assault until I pluck out a Death Radish. We both see it.

I dash forward, feigning a throw but immediately pop my taunt. He hits his counter move, standing right next to me, holding his sword up like an idiot, perfectly timed along with my taunt, expecting the turnip toss that never came.

Before he could exit his counter animation and recover, I tossed the Death Radish into his face.

Roy flew off the map. GAME!

He proceeded to Indiana Jones the GameCube the controller into the wall in pure rage, shattering it. It was my other friend's controller, and he got mega pissed. He was banned from the 'Cube after that, but I don't think he really wanted to play it after that match anyway. It was the last SSB match he ever played.

The issue with melee was wave dashing. You also had people modding gc controllers to wave dash, and macro abilities easier.

The pro tier of it was hypocritical, and literally made pro play a joke.

Smash Balls, ability balance, and the capability differences between various characters was awful. Metaknight was a perfect example.

The new Wii U one actually has some decent balance, and does a better job at competitive play possibilities than melee.
