I have a small bar in my kitchen. My day to day around the house drink is Johnnie Walker Red.

The most expensive bottle I keep regularly is Lagavulin 16 year. Most of what I drink are scotches around the $50-$80 range. Have a few bottles of whisky around the $50-$60 range as well.

My GF works at a store where they import from private distilleries/vineyards all around the world and we get to try a bunch of great whiskys -- among all the shit ton we've tried we agree that the best whisky is this mid-high tier magical bourbon called Jefferson's Ocean that you can buy at just about any serious booze store.

They take private distilled whisky barrels and put them on a ship that travels around the world so the whisky sloshes around in the barrels. Also the salty air gives it a distinct briney taste.

tl;dr: fucking amazing $80 bourbon that has a slightly salty taste.

I killed my last bottle of that in 2 days. I didn't even mean to get drunk I just kept wanting to taste it again. Great whisky.

Also, pic related is my favorite mid-shelf scotch to have around. It's cheap enough at around $45 a bottle that I never feel like I have to "save" it or anything, and that slightly sweet sherry oak cask finish is perfect for almost any time of day or mood.

I have also experimented with adding 0.5oz Laphroaig Cask Strength to a ~3oz Doublewood to add some smokey character and it's genuinely pretty great, though I don't normally advocate that kind of blasphemy.

If you like it that smokey more power to you, but I had a bottle of cask strength in my liquor cabinet for literally 2 years because I was so rarely in the mood for it. I ended up using it mostly to add character to sweet bourbons, which actually made for a pretty awesome little mixed-whisky cocktail. I was doing like 3 parts Four Roses single barrel to 1 part Laphroaig.

Just too intense for my taste by itself.

Depends on what you prefer. I'm not a huge peathead so I think Glenmorangie's 18 year has the best overall balance of quality and price. Glenlivet's 18 is cheaper but isn't quite as refined. Macallan's 18 is pricey and I find it sort of bland. (Still a great whisky though).

Johnny Walker Black is my "daily" go-to whiskey. Good on the rocks or in a highball. Little bit of smoke but not overwhelming.

Best I've ever had was Yamazaki 30 year. At that age it's not even whisky anymore, something else entirely.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a solid shout for anyone who loves peaty whisky but also being hit by an f40ph with every sip

Wild Turkey gets phenomenal reviews in blind taste tests from the snobbiest critics. Truly a pure old fashioned bit of brilliance for such a ridiculously low price. About $21 here in MO
>>
>>723839953
I've heard a lot about this one. Will probably try this when I finish my current bottle

There's special blends here that would blow your testes off. Master distillers are learning more about how to adjust flavors on bourbons by changing exposure to humidity, temperature and introducing new oak stalves. Bourbon is in a reneissance
>>
>>723840735
Got a bottle of that in my cabinet. Good stuff.
>>
>>723840361
I'll probably agree there too. Not a poorfag these days but I used to be and this would be my goto if I was feeling spendy.

These days if I don't want to spend more than 35 bucks though I will just go for bourbon. You can get really nice bourbon at that pricepoint. 4 Roses Single Barrel, Woodford Reserve, etc.

Origin is a good dram. I'm very much into Laphroaig though too. Cracking whisky.

(Gonna probably get shot down for this as it's blended, but Tullamore DEW is a class above most of the shite out there)

This is the one you want. It's blowing everyone's tits off. Now don't mind the fancy bottle, the bourbon itself has such depth of flavor and richness it's called the "willett pot still" bottle. If you don't know..... ASK somebody
>>
>>723839953

How the fuck do you yanks get Fiddich for $35 when it's like £35 in the UK? I would drink it more often if it wasn't so pricey.

You guys got low alcohol taxes or what?
>>
>>723834635
Denver-ite here. Not a fan, too cinamony for me. The snowflake is better but the base is not good to me

Good choice
>>
>>723841294
it's one of the few primarily produced for export as far as i know.

i don't know why that would make it MORE expensive in the UK though. maybe they just intentionally haven't set up very wide distribution so brits will pay more for it.
>>
>>723841294
I live in the midwest, the south part of the Midwest. Our liquor and cigarette taxes are literally the lowest in the country here in Missouri. Glen 12 yr is about $32 after tax.. shit you can get a house here 3bd 2 bath with a stand alone garage, 2k sqft total for about $110k.. but you have to live in this shit hole.. is it really worth it? Lol
>>
>>723841294
It really varies between states

A bottle of Patron is >$10 more in Utah than it is in New Mexico. The real question is how much are they exporting it for?

25 is a rip. Sienna is by far the best bang for buck.
>>
>>723841294
>£35 in the UK
I'm envious of you in the UK, with all the online stores you can order from and prices that aren't too high. Here in Norway that Glenfiddich 12 costs £48.
>>
>>723841271
>willett pot still

Damn, that's a $100 bottle. Is it the best whiskey for the price?
>>
>>723837726
Been one of mine for years. Excellent choice sir excellent choice.
>>
>>723841561
I didn't actually know that. Guess it makes sense if they keep low stocks here to keep prices high for Brits. Cocks.

>>723841578
If I lived in the Midwest, I'd drink all day anyway so $32 bottles of whisky would fucking help out.

>>723841634
True, I have no idea. But if the guy above is right about it being produced for export, probably selling it overseas for less than they do when shipping to Britfag retailers.
>>
>>723842019
>If I lived in the Midwest, I'd drink all day anyway so $32 bottles of whisky would fucking help out.

You'd fit right in
>>
>>723842019
Fair enough, drinking is about the only reprieve you'll get here. Too religious around here for them to legalize some good herb to relax you lol
>>

>>723841874
It's a $60 bottle here in the bluegrass state but yes it's killer. There's blends and special edition releases you wouldn't believe
>>
>>723832327
Excellent choice. Was going to post exactly this.
>>
>>723842560
But bourbon is for conessoirs. Jack daniels is for rednecks and frat boys. Knowing shit about bourbon makes you look smart. If you know a lot about wine you're a fag and if you know a lot about vodka you're a club douche. Break yo self nigga.
>>
>>723842849
I'm a bourbon man through and through, and tend to agree with everything you've said. However, I don't let my expertise rants fly unless someone asks. So many pretending snobs anymore that I try to debate it as little as possible.
>>
Well, I know what I'm gong to shop for tonight!

And to think, I was considering getting Gentleman Jack.
>>
best bourbon for whiskey sour?
>>
>>723843024
For the same money as gentleman you can get almost any low-end mid-tier bourbon that has actual flavor, meant to be savored without drowning it in cola

Thanks! I'm sipping on this right now. It's a well bourbon made by buffalo trace in Frankfort about 45 mins from here. I like to keep it in the freezer. This is 5bucks. Chilling it adds a strange aesthetic. 80 proof, good for mixing. Coca Cola is ok but I'll choke a fucker for using pepsi
>>
>>723831533
Talisker is too peaty for my palate, imho the best Single Malt is the Macallan, the only thing that comes even close is the Balvenie (the older the better in oak casks).
>>
