The standoffs are used as screws here. The actual screws are then screwed into the standoff. That means that the board has direct contact to the cause meaning that is very likely to short out since soldering points touch the metal case

>>723767852
This. I was changing a very expensive CPU and got a tiny fucking spec of this shit (which gets fucking everywhere) on ONE pin and that bricked the MOBO and the CPU.
>>723776748
No it's actually multiple. The pb method seems pretty common under the r9k folk. Once read a greentext of a guy who stored his piss bottles in his wardrobe out of fear getting caught emptying them. He didn't put the lids back on either which as you can imagine led to a disgusting smell in his room.
Being an r9k fag he still lived with his parents which became suspicious of the smell. One day when he for once left the house, his mom tried to find the source of the smell. Eventually she thought there was something under the wardrobe so she pushed it a little to the side to see whether theres something under there. The shock of the push made pretty much all the bottles toplle over.
The rest is history
>>723777208
Some compounds do actually conduct electricity so if you're not sure whether it does or not, always try your best to only apply it on the heat spreader. Not saying that yours was conductive. Just sayin. Sorry for your loss
>>723775275
>cans.wav
>>723777573
The issue was it was already applied. I had to remove the CPU and re-insert it to make my PC work. This happened a few times. Hard resets did nothing, turning off the power from the PSU for a day did nothing, etc. Only thing that worked was taking out the CPU and putting it back in. Turned out my GPU was broken, and the problem only happened with warframe.
Computers are weird.
For example, a friend couldn't connect to the internet. After weeks of testing, a faulty SATA to the HDD was the culprit. That SATA plugged into any main HDD disables the internet (we tested on a few comps).

>>723778836
Right? A while ago I had an issue where my comp wouldn't turn on. So I thought it was the PSU. My friend has an identical PC. So I replaced it. Worked for a few months, then the same issue. Replaced again. Repeat. Same issue. Replaced again, also replaces UPS and MOBO. Same issue. Long story short it was the CPU.
Another thing. I have two sets of ram. 8x2 and 8x2. They only work when 3 are plugged in. With a pair (doesn't matter the physical arrangement), I only get 8gb, 4 and my PC wont start (the MOBO is for for 32gb).
It is fun, if not costly, to find root causes of issues. Btw, what tool do you recommend for diagnostic tests on a UEFI Mobos?
>>723769441

>>723770242
Modern-day Apple is such fucking garbage.
Company should'a died with Steve.
>>723779608
Aggreed but it would have the same main disadvantage of a standard mechanical typewriter: what is written stays written. If you make a mistake you'll have to apply some white coating over where you made the mistake and then write over. I think typing a document, checking it for any flaws and then printing it is better in that regard.
Realizing your idea would make a computer as a processing tool obsolete though so you only need the typewriter/printer itself and a keyboard which is more cost efficient if you really only need a machine to type documents with.
>>723780168
>>723780278

>>723780168
Nahh man just making a joke about how it obviously already exists. But good effort none the less.
Well then, imma say bye for today
>>723780430
Well I have a PSU tester, if that doesn't detect any issues I try the PSU on my test rig. If it works on there I know the PSU is good. I then turn to the Mobo, I try my test PSU which is 80+ Platinum and been going strong for 5 years. If that fails to power it up then the board is dead. If it powers up but doesn't POST I'll swap RAM and CPU for my working test units until I find the culprit. I have a test CPU for every socket type and RAM of all types. PC diagnostic is entirely trial and error. There isn't any one single tool for it. Be ready to invest time and money for full scale diagnostic as a career.
>>723761577
Electronic Gore at your service
>>723781200
Yeah I also bought a PSU tester. I had an issue where the PSU was good, the MOBO was good, but the thing would not start up. Ended up being RAM AND CPU on my friends (each one individually prevented any computer from even powering on) but it was a real pain in the ass getting to that point.
>>723781833
Yeh, diagnosing PC issues as just a user can be pointless and expensive at times, test the basics for free then send it to a professional after that, otherwise it's really costly to diagnose yourself.
But yeh RAM and CPU issues can often be the trickiest to diagnose as well, as they often manifest as incoherent unreliable issues that happen almost at random.
>>723781809
Kek. This reminds of the time I went to an office to do some contract work and the "IT" guys there were trying to connect two PC's using a standard Ethernet cable. Their conclusion was that one of the PC's must have had a faulty Ethernet controller. I let it play out to the last minute just quietly enjoying the show.
