I used to do the same thing. Now that I'm in my 30s and dont live in a big city or college town I have to conserve. I'll take two or three times from my bowl and I'm set. I used to burn joints and it was such a waste.

Coloured stuff is just grown slightly differently, unless its a good strain to start (unlikely unless its specialist grown) if anything it'll be a bit weaker.
Most potent stuff will be imported from legalised states I would imagine
