Had a lot of relationships before this girl. She was a lot smarter, more expressive than the rest and had a great sense of humour, although had already tried suicide a few times, lots of them in front of people I know. With me she was a lot more stable for some reason. Never did anything too crazy in front of me. Being with her was fun anywhere. We had smart and fun conversations the whole time.

We used to smoke weed, then we started doing coke, her idea, I had never tried. Eventually I realized that shit wasn't worth it. You get high for a few minutes then crash down and need more. Next day is even worse. The more you snort the worse you get. Told her about this and she stopped for a while. Later I found out she was still doing it and trying to hide. We broke up cause I won't be with someone I can't trust. She eventually had a psychotic break and was sent to rehab. I sent some books and felt guilty (My therapist made me realize it wasn't my fault later) She got out and we spoke basics but never saw each other again.

For example, instead of being pissed off about someone at work, we can think about a situation as objectively as possible, and work towards eliminating negative or otherwise detrimental emotions.

You are indeed correct in saying that things inherently produce reactions in others, but by taking responsibility for how you feel and being mindful of the meaninglessness of everyday occurrences, you think and exist in a way that regardless of outside stimulus, you can return to a state of logical thinking.

It's a matter of discipline and self-awareness, not our nature as deeply emotional animals who are inherently unable to control themselves.

I was a normal kid, got chubby in late elementary school. Fluctuated between too chubby and growth spurt barely chubby. I never got teased for being fat. But I was always worried about and ashamed of my weight. Even the times I wasnt what you'd call fat, I wasnt in shape. I had no muscle tone. I kept going from being a bit tubby to being alright but never buff. I idealized being in shape. I'm 30 now. I spent so much of my youth being worried about being fat, and actually being fat, that I practically wasted it.

Do not live a sedentary lifestyle. Do not eat junk. Sad thing is sugar and salt is one of the only vices that are legal for a kid. That doesnt mean its not just as bad as smoking or drinking to excess.

Most of peoples problems, in this country at least, these days, are self esteem issues, tied to body weight and body shape. Do yourselves a favor and bite the bullet and get your asses in shape.

I've been in shape and offered jobs I wasnt qualified for. I've been fat and been rejected from shit I was more than qualified for. Your body is your projected image of yourself. Take care of your body.

Get in shape. Do it young. Figure out who you want to be, and do what it takes to be that person. Chances are all you need to do is get in shape and build up some self esteem. A good looking person can bullshit their way into a good spot. A qualified tubby smelly bastard will almost always be overlooked. Take care of your god damned body.

In reply to your second post, of course it's necessary for us to react to our surroundings. This is true, and I wasn't implying that being completely nonreactive is in any way possible. The idea is that we shouldn't allow outside stimulus make us feel negatively, or in any other detrimental way.

To comprehend the idea of your ego, outside stimulus is absolutely necessary, and not reacting is impossible. However, if your intentions are to maintain a positive, logical mindset, you shouldn't allow outside stimulus to make you think or feel negatively if it's in within your power as a free-willed human being to prevent these emotions.
