It's part of the human evolution.

It is a system that was evolved to allow a particularly smart individual of the tribe to control the dumber ones and direct the tribe into prosperity.
It include laws, crop control, decisions on which tribes to engage etc..

Nowadays we have better systems in place, but the religion mechanisms are still there and sadly being abused.

As long as your religion has become modernized to a degree, I'm fine with it. So Christianity, Sikhism,Judasim and Aboriginal beliefs are cool.. Can't speak on Buddhism nor Hinduism. Islam needs to step it's game up.

ProTipHint; the best religions aren't cunts to those not In it. Leaving Christianity, Sikhism and aboriginal beliefs.

Religions basically tell you what you need to believe in order to fit with their own definition of what enlightenment is. True enlightenment must come from within and religions will only obscure your path to get there.

In other words, do you love god, or do you try to love him because you are told to to do so? Love must come from the subconscious mind, it must be a natural feeling. To mandate that "You must love God" is to misunderstand on a fundamental level what love is.

Then what is love but a mix of chemicals

Religion is really interesting, but it usually gets used to explain how shit got made.

It's a damn effective tool to build philosophy around, and the religions with scriptures give some really interesting discussions.

The only religions I don't think have a place in society are:
a) Inherently violent
b) Designed from conception to exploit its followers
c) Inseparable from politics

So mainly Islam and a couple others, but most of them are p good.

Got bored with the nonsensical idea of christianity. wasn't greedy enough for judism. had no desire to fuck 8 year olds or cut peoples heads off so islam was out. too angry for buddism. voodoo and magic and paganism looked interesting but it was either a bunch of D&D bullshit or earth mother hippy dippy bullshit.

So I believe in nothing. The universe is absurd and pointless. And you can do whatever you want with the time you have, and you're gone like a puff of smoke when you die.

And I actually found that strangely comforting. It gives you drive and purpose. You can either focus on yourself and your enjoyment, or the advancement of the next generation and people for the future. Or a mix of both.

And I'm pretty happy with that.

The point is, you will love who or what those chemicals cause you to love. Trying to force it won't work.

Yeah, he doesn't have his signature "let me put this on to make myself look wacky and eccentric" thing. I remember when he wore a large salted pretzel around his neck like a necklace for a while.

I used to like him, but then I got older and realized theres a thin line between eccentricity and being an aggravating cunt. it's part of why I tend to disregard people like him and esr these days.
