Forensic science got lots better as did law enforcement in using it. So it's much harder for people to amass 30+ bodies in sexual sadist fashion compared to the 70s/80's (when the term serial killer was coined).

However, the FBI estimates there are something like 50-300 (I forget, most people dispute the # and say closer to a couple hundred anyway)

But definitely not the prolific 30+ bodies like bundy dahmer gacy coral etc
