Try to avoid them but learn to wrestle. Most people can't defend take downs or how to fight off their backs. It also limits their ability to hit you really hard from their back if you can keep top position. Most fights don't last more than a minute anyways and if you score a takedown, get a few shots in, you'll look like the winner.

Yes. Most kids couldn't even box let alone kick or wrestle. But fights DO end up on the ground and if you can't fight off your back or at least clinch, you'll probably get your ass beat. Jui jitsu is becoming a lot more popular these days. Maybe try that. I'm pretty confident the person you fight won't know how to defend chokes, armbars, kneebars, etc. They also will teach you takedowns and minimum striking because newer bjj competitions are allowing open palms strikes and shit.

Good luck. All the street fights (4 or 5) I ever had lasted maybe 20 seconds to a minute tops. Usually there are NO clear winners, but you get hurt, bloody noses, broken fingers, black eyes, chipped teeth, occasionally worse. The guy who brings the most people usually does the most damage, and usually crown themselves victors, even if they get their asses handed back to them. Unless you get THOROUGHLY done, what passes for "Street Fights" is just a more dangerous form of schoolyard brawl. Just don't be a pussy. Threat sessions are bullshit. Either punish or forgive, never threaten. Attack, and accept the consequences.
Real Fights in America are two or three shots exchanged from pistols close range, and that you can't walk away from. Seen that, but never involved.
