Over the last few decades, largely because of Marxist indoctrination via education and media, everything on the political spectrum has shifted to the left. Neoconservatives are basically just liberals/centrists LARPing as conservatives. Now, anyone who is a true, traditional conservative, is seen as an outlier. Extreme, even, as they are sometimes labelled "far-right".

Thus, the term "alt-right" is used to imply that this is not a mainstream movement. It's alternative, it's unorthodox. Even though 30-40 years ago, there wouldn't be anything particularly controversial about it.

Considering the word basically comprises anything that isn't considered a snowflake these days, I'd say the whole term never had any meaning outside of the liberal echo-chambers, or the "pseudo-intellectual" circles who keep posting their verbal diarrhea on youtube in between their daily sections of mutual masturbation.

I guess calling anyone who disagrees with you a "nazi" kind of diminishes the term and makes you sound hyperbolical over your petty grievances, so they probably just made up some new bullshit they could freely use instead of just calling everyone a "nazi" or a "racist". Still, most of the usual suspects probably uses all these terms interchangeably, and I doubt they themselves would even know, or cares about, the difference.

Nazi Party = NSDAP = National SOCIALIST German WORKERS Party

Nazi's were very pretty much the definition of socialism. They invented first health care programs, first income programs and they went very hard on socialism all around. Nazis hated globalists (right wing economies especially). Hell Germany's Communist Party was ally for Socialist Party for long time before Hitler got over 50% votes and destroyed other parties.
